captain George "red beard"

Yo-Ho!
Finally after really long time of watching these amzing forums ive got somthing to show.
this is captain George “red beard” from my pirates project.
He is the first character of the project i’ve translated to 3d, while developing the look I had in mind.

The base-mesh made with sculptris, then some retopo and details in zbrush. posing was done with transpoe master.
(cant wait to check out the new zbrush, dinamesh looks amazing.)
the render was done with maxwell in maya.

You all have been an amazing inspiration and I hope you will like it.
Comments are more than welcome.

He looks incredible. Great design, lighting, hair and render. So many different aspects are mastered well here, I think this will make top row.

Such an awesome picture!

Very nice indeed. First rate!

Like The Sculptris images?

Awesome!! Love this guy!

Friggin gorgeous! Nice to see a fully fleshed out environment with your guy- that’s something we like to neglect around here :stuck_out_tongue: Love how you stylized the hair and designed it all cohesively. Pretty dopetastic~!

that’s fantastic man! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
you create the hair directly in maya? what kind of shader didi u use?

very nice illustration, keep up your project!

love the real textures + cartoon!!! Breathtaking!

great man… top row for me! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

What fantastic modeling, rendering and overall illustration!

This is a wonderful piece… Love the hair/beard! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Thank you guys!
happy you liked it!

about the hair\beard: they were made in maya, with paint-fx. and rendered in maxwell with preety simple shader (diffuse map mixes, and some alphas for transperacy
and bump created in photoshop)

selahpoetic: I’ll post some WIP images as well, soon as I can.

Here are Wires and clay render of the model frame.
soon I’ll post some more WIPs.

As I said ,you can see that after first blocking of the major details and folds in Zbrush, I did some retopology to get those on my actual model. after that I did like 2 more rounds of details that transferd to maya as displacement maps and normal maps.

This is just SWEEEET! Loving the character, modelling and texturing. Overall great work here!! :+1:

Cant wait to see some more from you!

Dinamite! I love the combo of realism and Illustration! Show us more!

Really fantastic character, great job! He’s just oozing with personality.

I have one gripe though, the beard hair looks more like carpet or animal fur rather than real hair, especially in the final scene render. I think it takes away a little from the overall thing, but it’s still amazing nonetheless

Awesome character and style, and the final comp looks really cool!:+1:

Nice work, excellent expresion…

hahaha… great piece.

the character looks good and the lighting and mood of the final is very nice.
