Thank you very much !
Really happy to hear your comments.
Soon I’ll upload some more WIP’s.

This image is great! Cool character and render.

Are you using Displacements or bumpmaps for detail? I can’t seem to get displacement and bumps from ZB to Maxwell to work correctly, or at least as easily as Mental Ray. I’m wondering if you could show some settings if you are using detail maps from ZB (16 or 32 bit, etc).

Thanks - looking forward to more wips.

Thanks!
as you can see from the wires image attached, most of the big details are modelled.
Those big details were sculpted in ZB and than after I got them I did some retopology to have that new model.
In this wire render you can see the clean model, with no details maps, and compare to the final one which
have more details because of the maps.
I usually use the great multi maps exporter plugin for ZB, and it works great.
I’ve exported both Normal-maps and displacement-maps preety much with the default settings
(normal-map needs to be tangent space) and in Maxwell its preety straight- forward also.
I uses a maxwell layered material and aplly the normal in the global material parameters and the
displacement with the displacement layer that you can add with this little button “D” near the new layers buttons.
*somthing that I found a bit weird is that when apllying a normal-map you should increase the intensity to above
60-70 to get it right, which in mental-ray there is no option for intensity and the default is much more
intense.
hope this helps and feel free to ask if somthing not going right, or you have more questions.

What shud i add which not had been said earlier…just great stuff mate…really Inspirational.Keep going.:+1:

Great character development. Everything is working perfectly: model, textures and light. All contributing for the same mood and character style.

Very nice work. Congrats!

Hey thanks for the info - I’ll have to try normal maps, as bumps create strange banding in the render. A few more questions when you have time…

For displacements, do you use custom precision settings or adaptive? 32 bit? 16 bit? how do you configure Height value - in percent or cm? smoothing? offset?

Thanks.

Thank you guys again!

Are you sure those strange bending are not result of yet finished render or
to much hight on the bump? the regular bump is usually very senitive in maxwell.
I forgot to mention that to turn the normal map you need to check the “v” of it after you
enabelling the regular bump.

the displacemnt I use is normally on adaptive and 32 bits.
ZB will tell you in the name of the file what is the offset etc.

  • I have to tell you that I dont think there is just one way or the right way
to do these things. I have some people at work that uses this a bit different-
some times this way works, some times the others.
I know it can be a bit frustrating but I havent found the ultimate-always-working way, yet. haha

But I hope it will help and work for you. I’ll be happy to answer more questions and help you
solve this issue.

I will turn the bump down a bit and see how it goes - normal maps seems to work better for some reason.

I figured out the displacement issue - it had to do with scale of the objects (in zb) that I was testing.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread with so many questions, and thanks for taking time to answer.

Thats fine, glad it worked out.
Feel free to ask me, I’ll be happy to help.
cheers!

Yo-ho!
I’m adding 2 more WIP images.
one is the final scene clay render that you could see the clean meshes.
the other is a shading test of the boots and pants area, I think a few tweaks happend
till the final image but its preety much close to the final shaders.
enjoy.
