I love the uniqueness of your characters and I love that technique you demostrated in the video.
Hey I was just looking at your stuff on youtube the other day!! I was thinking to myself, I wonder how often he posts this stuff…and why havent I seen it on ZBC?"
And here it is!!
Just curious tho…how long, on average, do you think you spend on one character?
InkySpot,
Thanks very much, the silhouette method has been used by lots of people but for me staying in zbrush eliminates having to build a mesh from an image, rather your doing both at the same time.
nicko mcnicko,
Im glad you were able to find me. For this process the silhouette stage is about an 1.5 hours for 5 shapes, the major advantage is you work all the views at once, and because its blacked out your not distracted by any details. For dynamesh and sculpting the shapes I give myself about an hour per silhouette for proof of concept and then to refine and finish the concept 3-4 hours while I compare anatomy and other images etc. If I really want to detail it out with gear and a scene it could take me many weeks while I design. the short answer is if its my art… as long as I need to make it right. If its for work… as long as they will allow given the budget.
OK, thanks for your response. So an hour each to rough it in to have something to show the clients. I guess thats reasonable.
Is this red sands thing a personal project?
nicko mcnicko, the Red Sands is a property I’ve been developing, consisting of images full size sculpts and story collection which are in the works. Im working my way toward a large gallery show. The times vary but it allows me to block in all the forms to see if the anatomy works. its a fun process.
Awesome character, thanks for the video!
