Bugs I found as I try to work in 3.1

Bugs I find as I actually try to be an artist in 3.1
As I try to develop a character i think I crashed a few times or so over weird things. Thinking that it was a fluke I tried them again. So now as I try to develop a very simple character this thread will be everything i ran into along the way

If you post somthing here make sure you get a BIG OLD SCREEN shot of the work.

and a small brief thing about how it crashed on the screen shot.

If we all do this as we try to develop new characters I’m sure this will turn out to be a very fun thread.

No flaming 3.1 and if you must show emotion show it on the screen capture only.

(focus your anger through art)!!!

Hey! I have the same thing happening with Zbrush 3.1
crashed several times during my workflow.
:td:

Help please, Zteam!!

Hi Jason

Had EXACTLY that same problem when using ‘ZBrush3.1_candidate’ (the last beta release prior to this official v. 3.1)

Now I can’t even get a renewed serial number back to use along with the ‘normal’ 3.1 update…

C’est la vie…

Chris

You seem to have a lot of other Apps open alongside of Zbrush Icluding Maya. Have you tried just running Zbrush with no other Apps open?
Also, turn off all the bells and whistles in your video card.

Sorry about the double post, but I’ve been working in ZB3.1 for about 45 mins
and there are some MAJOR performance issues, for me all of the tools are working the way they should, but the program is running like CRAP, freezes, slowdowns, generaly poor performance.
ZB 3.0 was running great.

Pixologic please fix this Major performance degradation!

Dual Zeon X2
6 gb RAM
nVIDIA 8800 640mb
SCSI HDD.

What operating system are you running, and what are your Preferences>Mem settings?

I’m running xp pro 64 bit with 4 gigs of ram.
Hyperthread AMD
With the exception to dreamweaver running. Yep thats my workflow of apps.
I’m sure thats the workflow of many people also.
This program needs to be benchmarked in the real world of working enviroments not the “don’t breath wrong it will crash”
Looks like others are getting the same errors also

Video card setting are toned down.

Ooops I guess I forgot the OS
I am running Win XP 64 and I have the mem settings cranked up all the way,
this however worked fine for me with ZB 3.0.
If you have any suggestions on my mem settings for my configuration, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I understand, but all of those open apps are fighting for your memory.
I think running Maya and Zbrush will cause problems, not only because of the memory, but those two progs will be fighting for other resourses as well.
Just a theory.

I haven’t read everything, so excuse me if I repeat some stuff, but:
I have experience with Camtasia (worked with it in the army) and from all screen recording programs which take tons of mem and cpu, Camtasia is on the top 3 list AFAIK.
Try screen capturing with prntScrn and pasting it with ctrl+V into a new image in PhotoShop, or even windows Paint.

On my machine saving any curve makes ZBrush crash. (I don’t even get a windows warning, so no Screengrabs)

Can we report other bugs down here that don’t crash Zbrush?

System: windows XP 32bit, P4 3.4Ghz, 2Gig RAM

lol lets not mix up crashes with flaws.
I think its important to find out what will make us loss ALOT of work in this thread.

So right now curves defiently crashes Zbrush
And it looks to me
me and plak have the same OS, aside from the crashes plak the 64 pro has been running smooth.

The crashes happen really fast;)

Confirmed crashing when trying to save a curve:

Win XP-Pro SP2, P4 3.0Ghz, 2gig RAM, ATI x800 256mb (driver 8.383.0.0)

:frowning:

Ok, I switched back my mem settings to default, and opened, a sphere tool,
made polymesh3d and started to subdivide, and I’m STILL getting system freezes, (sorry no screenie as there is no dialouge box) I had to restart Windows.

So I can’t even work on a Sphere.

I had none of these problems with ZBrush 3. My sytem configuration has not changed.

Yep tested it with a default sphere3D and a newer model- the save smooth curve crashes my machine every time. Ditto for the two sub tools offset error! On that I used a mesh I made in ZB 3.0

ZB 3.1
Dell 9100
Dual Core 820 2.8Ghz
XP HOME SP2
3GB SD RAM
Is the video card even relevant to ZB?
SATA II HDs

So far over all though ZB 3.1 runs better than even 3 on my machine. Go figure!

Smooth Curv Bug Zbrush.jpg

Offset two sub tools bug Zbrush.jpg

Gees I really dont know how to explain this one

but here i go
The following picture is coming out of making somthing in topo tools
Even after clearing all masks you cannot move any points around eyes or mouth!!!
And it is a polymesh!!!
So I Hit the Make polyMesh button again and everything works like clockwork.

But that isnt the problem
Any time double sided is on you cannot move points around a opening or a boundary without the move tool being on 1

Hope that helps;)
as I said complex thing

so doublesided+Movetool=bad
it wont crash but it made me almost upset enough to go get the ball peen hammer out and reset zbrush the hard way

I confirm.Saving the curve on Smooth Brush, make Zbrush 3.1 crashing.

Xp Pro 32 bits
AMD 64 bits 3500+
4 GB Ram

Saving smoothing curve = Z3.1 crash. My first definite and 100% crashing operation in Z3. Before somehow wasnt crushing even on operations that people say it is.
My luck is finished  - awaiting Z3.2 :+1:

As with many other people i confirm the curve saving crash.
Another crash happens for me if you have a custom UI setup then attempt to make a Macro, if you cancel it when the initialze popup window comes it says goodnight.

I just want to say that although i didnt get a crash with the deformation subtool issue, i did lose my ablility to undo the deformation. this seems to only happen on saved, loaded models. if i make a brush stroke then do the deformation i can undo. weird

Okay heres another one, go to color do a fill layer, now draw a tool on the canvas, attempt to rotate, eh? whats that? you can’t? neither can i. oh, unless you go into move mode and move toward you in the z axis, what’s strange is that this didnt happen in z3.0
