When I saw the expression on that face, I knew it had to be your post. Great image! Can’t wait to see the final.
Great thread and awesome works as always, love the fiber mesh Tut,thanks for sharing
Wow! Awesome expression Sir!!
I saw the tumb and knew it was from your hand, great work Rick!
Another wonderful work!
Gee thanks guys, I didn’t expect this kind of response to this guy in the beginning stages. The likeness isn’t there yet and the anatomy on his hand is ridiculous.I promise you though that he will get a lot better. Stay tuned.
Doggy, You can’t help but feel the emotion when you look at Schlitzie I grabbed some frames from" FREAKS "to work from and refer back to a clip from the film as I worked on him. He has always been a favorite of mine. I was always fascinated at how happy he seemed. It looked like he was really having fun being in that movie and just being alive.
the face luks so alive and happy it makes me smile awsome as usual cnt wait to c the final result rock on \m/
I spent a little more time on Schlitzie. I concentrated on trying to get the likeness better,no detail on the face just surface noise. I still want to refine the forms. Just thought I would share the progress. Obviously the hand needs a lot of work as does the whole guy. I appreciate the support. I’m having fun working on this I am smiling a lot.
Ok I worked on him a bit more so I added an image to this post
Very Nice Rick !
Cool work Rick.
Dan.
nice work rick
You captured some interesting emotion and expression with that character, as well as keeping it realistic looking. Nice work.
It’s your ability to capture facial expression and poses. I always find it remarkable how you seem to do that with such ease.
Minor update I actually changed the topography of the dress and did a quick polypaint and wanted to see how it looked. Still want to change the sculpt on the face and arms and need to texture and polypaint them. I render as I work just to see how it is looking. It is easier to see that way.
Fantastic actually , i agree about rendering during the process it helps a lot even if still wip.
So cute!
I like where this is going. Very nostalgic. I don’t think I can conceive of Schlitzie in full color. amazing as usual.
Very cool. It’s interesting to hear about your work flow with the multiple renders. Keep going, this is awesome.
Thanks guys.
Yah My plan is to do Schlitzie in color but I am worried as we have only seen him in black and white and I am afraid he just won’t look the same in color. I’ll do it anyways I can always desaturate it and see it in B and W too. I can only put a few hours into him in the next couple of days than I have to do something else for about a week so I won’t be bombarding ZBC with more Schlitzie images for a while. Well probably one update tomorrow then nothing for a week or two.I’m surprised that anyone is even looking at Schlitzie as it seems like every day there is an image of him in the thumbnails. Sorry for doing that .
Rick,
I started down this path in 2005, and you were there. It helped me personally. You were gone for a while, and you were missed. We are glad to have you back, even for a little while.
The fact that a master of so many varied fields can maintain a humble attitude is so refreshing. I can assure you that no single person cringes when they see another thumbnail of your work pop up. I also find it admirable that you bother to expose so much of your process, and take the time to respond and create walkthroughs, to just let us follow you and catch glimpses of your approach. Most artists that attain any level of fame wouldn’t take one second to share their process, let alone offer any type of critique to anyone. Thank you. It can, and does, make a huge difference to the entire artistic community here.
My 2 cents on the black and white vs full color is, remember the hand tinted color photos from around 100 yrs ago? They were obviously black and white, but highlighted by color washes. They have always seemed kinda eerie to me. My Grandmother had a long hallway lined with them. That hallway made the hair on my neck stand up and seemed to get longer the farther I went.
Just a thought.
Cheers
Derek
