Bringing back an old friend

Awesome, hard to believe the render is only Zbrush!

This is a slap in the face for all those thinking one have to have special tools to get optimum results.
What skill, experience and the deep understanding of zBrush can achieve, is breathtaking!

WOW! He looks great, Rick! Can you throw an old dog a bone and share your material settings? Render settings? I know it is asking a lot. Zbrush is awesome. I am sure you could squeeze out a bit more realism in a Modo render ( which has an amazing rendering engine), but this is amazing. New desktop for Carver!

Just amazing … so full of life!

This one has Top Row written all over it!

cheers, David

Wow, this is great! Love the skin :+1:

two bones

Great stuff as always.

So tell me again Mr B,…this is 100% Zbrush? Holy**** . I think it is time to stop fiddling around with my other software if Z is a one stop shop. I am getting tired of jumping from one prog to another just to complete an image. Time to smash open the piggy bank! ( not that getting Zbrush will automatically make me a genius like you:cry: unfortunately.)

Sorry for being ignorant but is that image several million polys, polypainted and rendered in zbrush? Any post effects?

Just stunning…

Wonderful.

I must say I think this is absolutely stunning, Rick. I must admit that I don’t know the background for this character, and now I mostly don’t want to, because the impression I get of a rather simple guy sitting in the front row of the cinema completely enamoured by what he sees on the big screen is just wonderful. Congratulations on a job very well done!

Cool!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
Yes they are BPR renders, plural,I did a bunch of renders using different materials and lights and composited them in photoshop. The only paint over was the little water line on the eyes and I painted a bit on the eyes which I screwed up some when I polypainted them. Also I didn’t like the reflection pass that I did for the eyes. I don’t know if I can do a tutorial on this render because I flattened the images as I went along in Photoshop and don’t really remember exactly what I did along the way. I’ll try and do another one later ,with better eyebrows and keep track of what I did.Again thanks for looking.

I’m at a loss for words. Thanks for sharing with us.

With compositing I’m not sure how anyone can explain tweaking settings and shuffling layers in PS. Just the fact you got that result with BPR for the renders is proof of how versatile ZBrush truly is. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

The skin pore details on the arm of the portrait are well done. Good job there.

Beautiful creature! I want to marry her.

That’s awesome Rick…I just can’t stop looking at this image, there’s something about it which I can’t put to words

Hey Rick,

If I could offer a little thing my only thought was that the moustache stubble comes right down onto the top lip and seems like it should stop a little higher. Also at the top it comes right up to the nostrils. Schlitzie’s mo’ seemed to go more across the middle?

  • Matt.

Your totally right half vader this last render was more about polypaint and trying to get a good render. All of the fibermesh hair needs work. I was considering it as a place holder when I was planning on moving to MODO I was going to do the hair with their hair tools. I’ll try and find some time to fix all of the fibermesh hair . The eyebrows bug me more than the stubble.
thanks for your observation.

great bpr !

I was looking at all the pages before commenting. And it’s no surprise to see so many fantastic jobs. The facial expression of the characters is amazing! The amount of detail of the skin and domain Fibermesh are also inspiring. Congratulations for all this wonderful work you’ve been doing over the years and sharing with us!
