Birdman thingy

WAII: Nicely done!

So Ryan is my only hope?
I also had the rotating problem with the script… I really hope anyone can fix it so I can sit and learn for someone who knows what he’s doing

Any Bird thingy update soon?

Excellent work Mad!

Just a heads up, this worked fior me.
Re-size your window as specified in the instructions first.
Then start the z-script.
Do not, re-initialize… this will change the settings.
Follow the rest of the instructions and it should work.
Basically, just make sure you re-size and don’t re-initialize when prompted.
That fixed it for me.
Thanks again for the script… fun, fun, fun.
Cheers

Thanks for the fishHead walkthru madmac.

I’m always stumbling over my own mental blocks when working in zbrush. My brushes are big, fast and mad. And then i wonder why it all didn’t work. Your workflow will be my main source of influence from now on.

cheers for that ; j

Hi Madmac, I am a very recent user of zbrush, I just completed a course in human anatomy where we used Zbrush to apply our recently acquired knowledge and while browzing Zbrush central i stumbled across your work. I was already impressed by what people could do on Zbrush but the control you have over the modeling is just insane so thanks for the fish script, I have been studying it for few days already.

I have few questions for you. I read that you start from a low poly on max which you import in Zbrush but once you are done with your sculpt do you every bring it back to Max for animation purposes and how would you go about that? The only way to animate a sculpt correctly would be to do the skinning at the muscle level geometry and keep the skin features (scars, wrinkles…) as a displacement (normal map, bump map etc…).I am actually thinking that this is probably the answer to the question actually

Second important question, with such a control over your sculpt do you think it would possible do model in Zbrush an industrial design like a car for example? I am not asking about if Zbrush would handle it memory wise but just if an artist like you could actually model something that people normally use nurbs for?

Thanks a lot for sharing your work Madmac. This is mind blowing and hopefully I will be able to get the grip with your workflow and treat people with some nice sculpts too.

For people still having problems with the script, like said above “Do not, re-initialize…”

Olivier

elarcano: I’m very sorry it isn’t working for you… Did you try voodoomonkey’s suggestion? I think that will fix it. It is an important step that I forgot to include in the directions.

voodoomonkey: good call man… I think you probably saved the day for the people having problems with the script!!!

SajNT: Your very welcome… I’m glad it is useful.

oliveuk: Thankyou and your welcome

Yes I bring it back into max all the time and use displacement and bump mapping.

Well I think it would be possible… I mean designers sculpt full size cars out of clay all the time, so it makes sense that zbrush could do it. Having said that it certainly doesn’t sound like much fun… to me anyway. But I wouldn’t want to do it with nurbs either.

Thanks agian for the compliments!

Finally I saw the script!
Awesome!.. where do I sign in for the MadMac Fan Club?
Definitely I’m gonna try this technique on my “Diary”

Thanks Voodoo, I wouldn’t figure it out in a million years! -there are still amateurs around like myself  -

Mad, just one question, I see you basically used the Std button instead of the inflat one… any particular reason in for this?

thanks again guys

A community is only as cool as their members are  … you guys are great!

Wow! excellent models !! really great inspiration forms… hope to see more of this awesome models from you:+1:

Hey guys sorry to sound dumb but i resized windows on 1200*900, didn’t reinitialize and still have issues with the script, at the beginning everything goes fine and it gets more and more jagged minute by minute, anyone willing to export a .mov with madmac agreement

salut Sleepwalker, the script is probably around 40 minutes long in 1290x90 so my computer would choke to death if I had to do a recording of it.

olive

… no, not necessarily. Just did a test, and the recording runs smooth here, no problems at all. I think it was more in the old days that was a problem, I’m running 3Ghz 1GbRam and bad-bad PCI card.

Unfortunatly I can’t see it either…

Sleepwalker / erikals, this is how I got to see the script (step by step):

  1. Madmac's setting (Document size 1200 x 900) and just in case (Monitor resolution 1280 x 1024 pixels)
  2. Run the script (Play)
  3. Hit the "Skip Initialization" Button, NOT the "Initialize and Continue" button, because this will resize your canvas -like Voodoomonkey said ;) -
  4. It will try to get a tool, just click cancel
  5. Then it will try to import a 3D Mesh. Load the FishHead.obj located in the FishHeadScript File that you downloaded
And Voila! There you have a very educative script from someone who knows exactly what he's doing. Hope it helps

huhhhh… did the Birdman ever came out of the egg? -translation: Where’s the updates!!!-

Ok, what all you guy’s said to do didnt work! So what I did, i’ve changed some values in the way ZBrush import and export models from other software!

In the preferences, under Imprt/Export tab, I’ve put the unified scale to 4, mine was at 1, and didnt work, as soon as I’ve put it to 4, it worked, I guess you had that set to 4 when you did that fish head!

Monitor resolution doesnt really mather
I’m on a 17" widescreen laptop, and I’ve left it to what It was by default!

I did had to set the Document size to 1200 x 900 thought!

Awsome way of modeling details in Zbrush man, I love that technique, As a mather of fact, I’l go try it right now!

Laterz!
Jonny

While we’re at it, does anyone know how to permanently set the size, background color of the canvas? Which means evertime I open up zbrush, I don’t have to re-set the canvas size/background color.

cheers

Well… I’m very sorry this has taken so long… shows how little spare time I actually have these days

Anways… here it is… the finished “Birdman”

Oh by the way, I had a good friend of mine make me a new website… www.unnaturalthings.com (thanks Zach)
I’ve posted a few new images up there if your interested.Birdman_Web.jpgicon2.jpg

Very nice result. This has been a joy to watch from the beginning.

I am really impressed with the sharp edges you manage to give your Zbrush models, I have seen a few.

I downloaded your fishead tutorial before, it was really an eye-opener. An off-topic thanks for that.

This model…nothing to add, when I get to your level I’ll have the eye requierd for critiquing this. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

greets

Bimm

I have to say I’ve not been dissappointed. the early work was beautifully sculpted and the final texturing has done justice to the piece.

5* for me - top row.

idea, texturing, composing!!! :+1: :+1: :+1:
how long you work on this project? what is the render engine u use?
