beginning a sketchbook

hey there…

My name is Jan and i’m living in germany. I’m 21 years old and i ever dreamed of doing such things like 3ds max and zbrush.
But my machine was too slow.
last week i finally bought a new pc with a zbrush-license.

I will use this thread as my digital 3d-sketchbook.

and so… beside the lot of work i got to do in the last week i made my first zbrush-piece!!!

im happy about EVERY comment and critique.
because it is my first one…

the only i critique by myself is the color…

but take a look by yourself

Good job. The textures are sooper.

Like the tooney style, just think “it” is a bit too stumpy, like he would not be able to use arms and legs efectivly, though you could be going for that. Always good to see someone starting a new wip thread, and congrats on the new puter and software, I am shure you will use it in ways no one can predict. :+1:

hey there…
finally i got some time… some hours on this bust-try… for practice…
i think everyone knows the difficultys of anatomy :stuck_out_tongue:

maybe i’ll refine and texture it. but i think its better to scribble (a faster learning curve)

comments and espacially helpful critique are welcome! =)

Hey there,

it was weekend, so i can post my first anatomy-studie. and i have to say, i am proud of it. Becouse its my first 3D Try with human anatomy. But i wanted to make it a little bit more interesting :) for now i only posed him without afterward tweaking (becouse its late here). but that will come in the next few days... besides my work! =) All Done in ZBrush with ZSpheres and Topology (For the trousers). hope you like it and PLEASE feel free, to comment or critique! :) Jan

Dude make a Free blog and post your work Im sure if your like me zbrush is just one aspect of a wide range of programs you need to learn to be able to produce professional results.

updating a zbrush page is fine. But you should have a Blog for your stuff man go to a free blog and make one, but of course contribute to pixologic forum as well.

You can use my blog company if you want 5 gb free web page.

hey guy,

i don’t understand your massage… blog?
since yesterday i have my own domain. i think thats much more professional, than a blog is.

i really don’t get the point… wide range of programs? if you are good in zbrush and have all primitives as obj. you can create all you want.
(the only thing is the rendering… but there are also possibilities).

professional results are depending on what you want as a result. i just took a look at your blog… and sorry, i don’t think you should talk about “professional results”

updating the zbrush page?? i think its the best way to get helpful comments. your’s not really helpful… sorry… not helpful at all.

some changes on the pose and the pants… i have big problems with the stomach…
i think one he gets tomorrow one more subdiv level but then i’ll try to detail him out (like dogmarks, chain, earring etc.).

i please for helpful critique… =))

almost done with him…
i think ill give him a ground.
but i wont the texture much… maybe i’ll try to get some better blood.

C&C are welcome! =)

here you have the textured one…

[final.jpg]

awesome original stuff… very interesting…
the way hes holding the axe makes it seem very light…you don’t feel the weight of it

thanks!
yeah, there are some… problems ^^
but i can’t see him anymore… :stuck_out_tongue:

anyway, you have a nice portfolio yourself!

my newest… not perfect anatomy, but i think, he’s ok…

made in 4 hours… c&c are welcome

hey there guys,

something new. My first UV-Layouted guy.
I am finding my pipeline right now. (i never wanted to use textures, uv-coordinates and such stuff… but it does’nt work without)
All the geometry is rendered in mental ray in 3ds max. Only Diffuse, Spec and Gloss maps used.
No Displacement. All geometry was baked into mental ray proxys which gives the best results in stills! if someone’s interessted, i will post my workflow.

I’m Happy with it.
C&C are welcome. and please forgive me the missing background. like i said, my first rendering experience.

hey there,

now my first try to capture female anatomy.
here’s my result after… maybe 6 hours. and i got STUCK! bah!!!

so PLEASE help me! i use some references, but only a little heavier girls. and i am already afraid of the face. my last female-bust-try sucked as hell.

so, PLEASE help me to improve my sculpting skills. i’m working really hard on it.

hi there…

still working on this woman… no comments at all… -.-
so i tried to pose her. i want to render her later.
but i have to sculpt and texture her before.

i think there is something wrong in the breast area. i don’t even think, someone could sit like that.
if someone helps i would appreciate that! =)

fang lieber nen neues model an.
die proportionen stimmen insgesamt einfach nicht und es wär einfacher was neues anzufangen. am besten such dir nen concept raus.
bei deinem ersten post hats doch gut funktioniert

your sculpt is looking good so far. Allow me to offer some suggestions on your anatomy (which is very close, but could use some “oomph”)

consider that, in general, when your model is looking directly forward, the distance from the bottom of her chin to her nipples will be very close to “one head height”. If they are lower, it can indicate an older woman or a specific ethnicity.

Also, the nipples do not point directly forward. They actually point slightly outward. If you were to draw a line from each nipple, to the center of her spine, while looking at her from directly above, the angle between those two lines is very close to 90 degrees.

Her breasts are lacking volume in the upper region. Inflate her upper chest area (above the nipple to the armpit) a little bit, and separate her breasts from eachother. Unless she is wearing some kind of support bra, her breasts are a little too close together right now.

from the standing side view… narrow her waist all around, and rotate her pelvis. Lean the top of her pelvis forward, and pull the bottom toward her rear. A woman’s pelvis is tilted more in this direction then a man’s pelvis is.

from the standing front… to emphasize the female form, you need to widen her hips. Where her leg bone fits into her pelvis needs to be broader to indicate that she has a pelvis wide enough to carry a child. Narrow hips indicate immaturity (under 14 yrs old) or a boy. Some women have narrow hips, and if that’s your intent, then so be it, but breasts like hers can only be complimented with more curvy hips and legs.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it may help.

many thanks so far!!!
i’ll try…
