Did they use your actual models or was it more of a concept?

I’m not sure if it’s easier to start with a base mesh with the right topology or just go with the more freeform zspheres and start sculpting right away. I can tell you which is more fun though.

Greetings from the second dimension! With great difficulties we have been able to watch this movie, and we are completely blown out!

Our scientists are now working around the clock to find out the implications of this event. The government is mainly interested in how to expand our society into an additional dimension, and how to regulate the access to it. But the rest of the population is picking apart every detail of it, not bothering with gov stuff.

This will certainly make a breakthrough in many areas, we believe that it will raise the bar when it comes to perfectionism in moviemaking. It will also broaden the acceptance for sci-fi in movies as well as in literature and art. Of course the technical revolution will also have a burst, we hope it also will benefit us living here in the plane:-)

All in all, besides currently being the ultimate escape drug, Avatar is probably the best thing that happened the last decennium.

To be fair it must be mentioned that one character (who is now in jail) said “That was a fat demo reel, with a little story attached”.

Best regards /kaitomas

KillahPriest: These were all concept design models, and were sent to Weta and used in various ways.
when I’m doing designs in 3D I don’t always know what the proper topology will be at the start .
BTW ,I’m not a big fan of zspheres:p

Hi buddy highly inspired detailing…Amazing texturing…Hatsoff !!! :+1:

Hi Guys.
I have seen for the first time such cinema. It was more tremendous!
I have madly fallen in love with a film avatar. A film plot - very interesting, and as well as everywhere the love has won harm!

I’ve seen this 4 times now. Can’t wait till it comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray!!!
Again, good work. :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

I’m sure that Patton is too busy to notice my question because there are so many replies. But I wanna know the answers eagerly.
Thank you again.

siyukalebtao: OK,OK! I sculpted it closed first, then I rigged it to open all the way, ( yes it stretched, a lot!) after that I pick select poses ( the ones I posted) and finished the detail sculpts of each one of those poses. I’m not an animator, Im a designer, so it only exists in a low-res rigged model.
Patton

Thanks so much,Patton! I got it!
The reason I am eager to know is that I’m working on a creatrue these days, and I am not sure how the workflow should be act.
What I’m worry is whether the model created open-mouth can be used in the animation workflow?
Thank you again!Wish much more masterpieces!

I was watching your second DVD and was wondering how you rendered out the model without the background? and I liked the comments you would make every time Zbrush bugged out haha

hey guys i found Patton’s interview at ArtTalk. Not sure if its already posted. here is the link

Batman: Dead End rocked! That just kept getting better and better! Good idea with the Bats blades. Made him look bad ass!

DAnconia: I have a credit on that one, but I don’t remember working on it!
BTW how are the copper mines these days?:sunglasses:

KillahPriest:thanks:you can make the background solid by : picking a color in you want in the color selector , go to Document, click on “back” and move range slider to 0.

I own all the mines. It’s a burden but it’s my life. Lot’s of people have finally been noticing that reference. Or at least been verbal about it.

That’s funny you don’t remember working on Batman: Dead End! Seems like it was a fun time making that short. That article in ArtTalk was very inspirational. Especially about being self taught. Cause I had no background in sculpture until 2 years ago and keep my eyes and ears open for any tips. That thirst for knowledge and autonomy is so important. I can’t imagine how labor intensive this whole project has been with the early ZBrush versions. Keep up the great work and thanks again for helping make one of my favorite movies.

The Na’vi’s faces are certainly the great diferencial of the movie. I had seen some videos that show the actors with a lot of dots in their face because of the motion capture. Were the animation of the 3D face models made automatically by the computer or were those videos used by animators to make the work manually? I’m sorry if anyone has already explained it.

And congrats on the amazing work!

Absolutely outstanding work there.

I have seen the movie twice and will go again soon. As soon as the DVD of the movie comes out I will purchase it also.

Paul.
