***Announcing ZBrush 4 for Windows And MacOSX

First off, i must say, this is truly impressive low poly next gen work. One of the best i’ve seen that replicate the closest to a zbrush render of the hi-res polypainted source, i must say. To the folds on the clothing, to the texture, attention to material values and detail look superb. I’d just have one question about your particular spec map.

Just like to ask, what is the difference between the blue spec map and the black one? Is this an innate 3dsmax thing, or does it work for all other 3d packages?

Happy to see an announcement, eager to see what ZB 4 will bring to the table.

KonginChains - different colours on your specmaps reflect different lights from
off your models. you could perhaps have a skin colour of pink, but have a
blue light bounce off (becuase of your spec map).

I’m very enthusiast about new ZB4.
Please, is it not possible GoZ to Softimage?
Thanks.

cool. Cant wait to see the animation functions xD

Though people would love it if polypainting doesnt depend on model resolution anymore and has some rudamentary layers support

Nice one Pixologic. Glad to hear your back on track with a dual platform release.

Anyone know if it will be 64bit?

Yes indeed, im shure it was worth the hard work to get them both out in August.

Id be content to have Layered painting, 64bit is essencial, GoZ, and improoved topology tools. Would be nice to have the Transpose even more refined for posing. I think the main area id like to see the most additions is the texturing side. Ohh would like to see the lighting system revamped.

I honnestly would have thought so. This software is getting bigger, and more memory is need to push things further. Powerfull apps need multithreaded 64 bit coding to harness the full power of todays computers.

Either way, Zbrush has gone so far behond V2 when I brought it, its a power house of tools where you can have fun while producing industry results.

WOW COOL Great news can’t wait to see it

One of the best news from 2010 :sunglasses:

Congrats and many Thanks to the team! :+1:

No GoZ For XSI? are you guys for real?

Been waiting all this time…all this time.

The Price we have to pay because Autodesk bought Softimage…

I think the problem is the fact that XSI is a fairly new program, only been around for a couples of years, with not many users worldwide and Autodesk is a very small company without much financial resources.

I migrated from 3DSMAX to XSI never to look back, so sad to see that XSI was left out of the GoZ deal.

what do we wait for now? another year? Zbrush 5? a stable version of 3dsmax?
a newtek software in which you can orbit the viewport with one key?

I guess some will keep working the same old(time consuming) way

I would really appreciate goZ for XSI. Its my favourite package for character-animation!!!

Kind of like Mudbox, where you can create a new layer and set a resolution (don’t need blending modes for this  )…i would love that since i do all of my texturing, mostly in zbrush… and I mean allow us to paint diffuse, spec, gloss, bumps, reflection masking, and let us see it in real time…

I will definitely break in ZB4 with my next project…until then, sculpt sculpt sculpt!!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:D

I’m very happy for this announcement, the only thing i must ask is to consider XSI in GoZ plug in, as many users said…
Thanks!

^^ Agreed. I use XSI 7 and GoZ would be extremely useful in my projects

Congrats guys!!! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
Really looking forward to seeing what delights you bring us.
Good luck at Siggraph; bet you blow everyone away!

This made me lol. I’ll assume you’re joking, but just in case you’re not:

Softimage 3D was released in 1988, and was renamed in 2000 to XSI, and then changed to just Softimage in 2009. For reference 3D Studio (pre-Max) was released in 1990, and Maya in 1998, making XSI one of the oldest 3D applications still in use for the media and entertainment industries today.

Also, Autodesk is worth $billions, though I’m not sure of their exact net worth.

PolyHertz, sadly you’re confused on the matter.
Softimage 3d was Softimage’s first 3d package. XSI was a totally new piece of software that was created to replace Softimage 3d. Saying that XSI is just a renamed Softimage 3d is like saying Maya is just a renamed Alias Power Animator.
When XSI came out in 2000, it was a totally new app with a new code base, so it definitely isn’t one of the oldest 3d apps around. It’s core is FAR more modern then max and maya.

“Softimage 3D was released in 1988, and was renamed in 2000 to XSI, and then changed to just Softimage in 2009.”

Softimage 3D was not renamed to XSI in 2000. XSI and Softimage 3D were both sold side by side for a few years. XSI is a completely different program. It’s actually the newest of the 3 major applications (max/maya/xsi) and seems to have a more flexible core architecture as evidenced by the massive additions and revamping that has occurred between v4 - 2011.

Softimage actually listens to their userbase and the trend seems to be continuing even after the acquisition by Autodesk.

Honestly, when I look at this page:

http://www.xsibase.com/articles.php

and see all of the phenomenal work that has been done over the years with tools created by the Softimage team it really does feel like a smack to the face when Pixologic doesn’t create a GoZ plugin for XSI.

I don’t want to start an app flame war here as that’s quite lame, but, to exclude a major software like Softimage from the GoZ goodness and provide it to apps like Modo/Cinema4D which have less market share and have not been used as extensively in the film/commercial/games industries is even lamer imo.

There are several phenomenal artists that post insane work here and their primary 3D tools of choice are Zbrush and Softimage.

i.e. Scott Patton, Aaron Sims, Greg Punchatz, etc.

I’m guessing they aren’t happy about not having GoZ either. Hopefully we Softimage users won’t have an extended wait to use such a great workflow boosting tool like GoZ and am really looking forward to Z4’s release regardless of the big let down GoZ wise.
