Ah ok. I see your point. Meh sorry to hear man. Good luck is all I can say i’m afraid.
It is true Shadow dagger, but when the update comes it is pretty much bug free and beautiful. Before the last windows update we got an update first. I also use a mac and would never use anything else. It is difficult to put a sophisticated program like this across two such different platforms. I am very grateful they support both. and willing to put up with the delays because the product is always worth it.
Plus I have never seen a company reward loyalty the way that this one does. When was the last time you paid for an upgrade? I started with ZBrush 123b and I have never paid. Every time I get an upgrade it feels like Christmas has come. Not just because it is free, but because I know it will work and I will love it more than any previous version.
Brett, I have GoZ… you can have it. It’s not the perfect tool in combination with C4D.
…its not so much complaining, as it is we are seeking info! We are left hanging and clueless to when 3.5 for mac will be released. A product that we all paid for, the same amount either mac or PC. I do use my imagination with my current version of ZB but, there are many valuable enhancements in 3.5 that can be of great use to all users! They created these enhancements for that reason, to Enhance your tools set, to increase your abilities to work faster, smoother, smarted with projects. I dont feel im complaining really, (and even if i am.lol) it’s not fair to release a PC version first and no Mac, when we all paid the same price. Period! It’s a teaze and causes conflict. I think its not fair thats all… and if anything at lease respect that, and give us updated info on what to expect for Mac… gossshhhh. i think its simple really, so we can get on to an fair, equally happy community in ZB land!
You didn’t pay for zbrush 3.5, it’s a free upgrade for existing license holders. There is no guarantee that future updates after v3.5/v4 will be free.
Richard
I DID pay for ZB 3.2 AFTER I saw the print advertisement for 3.5 already being available for MAC, and then saw confirmation on this forum that 3.5 would be released in Q1. So I come from a position that I purchased ZB 3.2 because I was explicitly told 3.5 would be out by Q1.
I am not a veteran user, but a new pixologic user who bought 3.2-Mac BECAUSE they advertised that 3.5 was “available for mac” in print ads, and then that it would be “out in Q1 2010” for Mac, neither of which have been even PARTIALLY TRUE. So I do feel like i’ve been mislead. After using ZB, I enjoy it and have been far more productive in it than any other sculpting app i’ve used to date, so I wouldn’t even dream of not using ZB from here on out. 3.2 is still a very good app when compared to 3.5
Had I known 3.5 would not be released as Pixologic stated AND ADVERTISED IN PUBLICATIONS, I would likely have put more thought into waiting for MB2011 and possibly not have purchased 3.2 if I was going to be left in the dark(and technically its likely worse than just misled) like I “feel” I have been.
I completely enjoy ZBrush now that I have had a good amount of time to get into it, its a work of technical art IMO. ZBrush is hands down the finest sculpting tool I’ve ever used(MudBox/3DCoat/Blender). However, I strongly feel I was totally misled(or worse) into making my purchase of 3.2 for Mac as I purchased in late Q1 because I was told 3.5 would be out or was already out in Q1.
EDIT: I understand that by stating this I might incite some defensive posturing, but I’m just being honest, my apologies if I have offended anyone. ZB is an amazing tool.
What drives us crazy is that here we are again. Literally. No communication, no nothing. The last time this happened this forum was in an uproar and the news even made it’s way into 3D magazines and other forums across the Web.
Imagine you’re about to get a new raise or promotion at your job after another department did; say the accounting dept. And now your boss tells you that you will be getting a raise and promotion too. But he just keeps telling you “soon.” And days pass, and weeks pass, and you keep asking and he keeps saying “soon.”
The people with the raises and promotions are enjoying life, have more money for their bills, are going out more and you and your department can only look at them and dream. Then your boss stops talking to you. Period. No news, no clue, no hints. And then you see ads that say it’s out, and you get into the bad habit of checking the website every day like a Pavlov dog.
That’s what this is like and we are going through this AGAIN. I never, in a million years, would have guessed Mac users would be put through this again…yay…
I understand oh wise one, Yes, it is a free upgrade. That is not what i stated. I said I “paid” for ZB, the same price as PC users. I am stating that its not fair to release one platform and neglect the others since we all paid for this software. You know, I give up. I’ll just have more patients. this back and forth riff raff, is just making it worse, I only asked for info/ communication form Pixo, not some PC user rubbing it in or trying to challenge everything I say. Look i love pixo, Im Amazed by this program and its power. Im not bashing pixo, not hating at all. I only requested communication from them on exactly when 3.5 will be released. As I stated, if they where fair to all users and released all platforms at once, there would be no negative posts. …You cant expect us Mac users to sit well with these delays and lead onnnn’s. Regardless i love ZB and will wait…in silence with positive hope. :b4:
Keep in mind that Pixologic probably has about 5-6 employee’s. So these types of issues are not going to go away anytime soon. This is the price we pay for supporting the little guy. But all in all it is worth it imho.
Ironically, if they grow and hire professional PR people and project managers, we will all complain when they become too corporate.
whoa, only 5-6 on staff. I will keep my comments down, as I thought they were a larger company. My apologies to what must be the EXTREMELY overworked Pixologic staff, and my sincere thanks for creating a Mac version of your AMAZING TOOLSET!!! It would still be great if we could have at least a quick update telling us a month from now, or a week, or 6 months, or whatever. Its always nice to get the release earlier than expected, but definitely not many months/years later.
I have to say that 3.2 on Mac is absurdly stable, as long as I’m not using the morph brush on a layer that I deleted after I stored the MorphTarget. Looking forward to a stable 3.5/4 on Mac as soon as its available, cant wait to test out the new skinning algorithms.
As a Mac user myself, I’m also in the same boat waiting for the v3.5 update like everyone else. Moaning about it is not going to make it appear any sooner. It’s not always PC ahead of Mac, version 3.2 for Mac with a lot of the benefits that are in 3.5 came out months ahead of any PC update. When v3.5 is ready, and hopefully sufficiently tested to iron out any bugs, it will be released. What does it matter if Pixo announce a date now or in 2 weeks time, you’ll still get the update on the same date. I bet you’d also complain if they announce a date and then fail to hit it, which has happened many many times, and they get loads of flack for, so If I were them I’d only announce something when I know for definite I can release it.
Richard
Guys and Gals - we went through that before many times, didn’t we? It will change absolutely nothing to whine here about new version. You hear me? NOTHING. And here’s the best part - you already know that.
Lets see calendar… What do we have here… Aaaaa… Siggraph! Ok then, lets try to wait until Siggraph then, shall we?
What? You say is in 3 months? So what? I mean doesn’t matter how many times you will write this and that about Pixologic - the end of it will be exactly same as every time. Now let me tell you the future, ok?
- First will be whining. Always is.
- Then part of hardcore fans will tell you to shut up because its a free update anyways (I guess they are those kind of people that word FREE is giving them a stiffy, but hey - there are different fetishes around).
- then will be more whining. Someone will get thread closed, someone else post deleted and some other person will get this funny ban, that allows you to say ANYTHING, but only you can see it (and wonder why you never get answer - does not matter how provocative was what you just said. :D)
- then many days after all of sudden some little movie will be posted, presenting new, mindblowing options that will send poor mudbox back to dark ages. And most of us will immediately forget about all that waiting, starting to post such elaborate things as “OMG! I LOVE YOU PIXOLOGIC!”, “AWESOME JOB PIXOLOGIC!”, “WORK OF A GENIUS!” and so on.
- Then again will be a little delay and finally, 3 days after release date new Zbrush will be released.
And here we come to the best part. Months after that release, when we all got our hands on all that new features, those who were whining constantly, screaming in every post about update - all those will do absolutely nothing worth of taking look at.
Have fun. See you around Siggraph.
excellent post Nezumi!
I personally am not so interested in a release date (of course I am, I’m just not “demanding” it I want them to take their time and release as good a version as possible). What I would like is, like I said before, to hear from the developers a little bit more. A simple heads up would be nice.
Considering that they are a smaller company they should be more in touch with there customers since a lot of small businesses are known for being closer to those that buy their products. It’s not like they are withholding any information on the 3.5 vers. for Mac for the sake of protecting proprietary information either. I mean, we are talking about an update that features the same thing PC users have been using for months so there is no risk in “leaking” anything.
The very fact that Zbrush Central is always well maintained constantly with new content, interviews, etc. is pretty much proof that Pixologic is able to, despite being a small company, throw enough ongoing content at their community. They’re just not willing to talk about the next Mac update.
I wish that the Mac update were the only issue though, when it comes to Pixologic. Zapplink is still not available for Mac, a plugin that was released quite a while ago and that is also a very important part of the texturing workflow in Zbrush. So important actually, that books on Zbrush dedicate quite a lot to this feature to which Mac users still don’t have access. Even trial versions of Zbrush are off limits to Mac users! That’s almost as if Pixologic were trying to fend off “those pesky whining Mac users” in the first place.
Yes, when the update does come out I will rejoice. Yes, I will praise Pixologic. But no, this is not whining. Both PC and Mac users paid equal amounts of money, they should have equal treatment. This is a standard among multiple platform software users. Sure, with a lot of programs, one platform can have certain advantages when it comes to bugs, specific plugins (Zapplink is too essencial and even a trademark plugin of Zbrush to be left out of the Mac version) or even release dates but the treatment for both is always expected to be equal. The reality is that Pixologic demonstrates a neglect and lack of attention to their Mac users, even though they paid for the program just like PC users did. This isn’t about hating on Pixologic, this is about setting a standard that most of us set on most other software companies, whether they be big or small companies, whether the content be free or not.
Finally, this forum’s purpose is for Pixologic to be able to communicate and be aware of the thoughts and opinions of their users. I do not feel like I’m “whining” when I post this.
Cheers to nezumi!.
Love the post
well put.

Absolutely time to whine!
I bought my copy of ZBrush for Mac just after it came out in Nov 08, promised a free upgrade to 3.5 till end of year, which from then on promised simultaneously to all platforms.
What I receive was the cripple brother of ZBrush for PC, missing many features, never got ZMapper, have a ZTL-format only readable by Mac-Users(until 3.5 came out), Plugins coming very, very late, ImagePlane arrived last summer, and not working with Projection Master- ZApplink is coming soon(not coming) for 18months now!!!
ZBrush for Mac is really unstable, crashing a lot, so to work you really have to save often. I tested it in Instruments, which came with XCode, and it has serious memory leaks(3.2 more than 3.12B). I tested other apps and no other has memleaks.
and we have problems with disappering meshes, which also (to me?) happens quite often.
Its not made with same care as their PC-releases. just press help --Intoduction to ZBrush - there you can read: “Welcome to ZBrush 2”!!! press list of contents ---- Error: ZScript Note : specified execute file could not be found…
After some trouble with Mac-users last year Pixo called it transitional(but transition never happens).
I know there are bugs in ZBrush 3.1PC too(and never been solved), but at least ZBrush on PC was a full working enviroment.
just look at following link
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=80185&highlight=OSX
After not releasing in 4Qu.08 there are many announcements: revolution in August, which was taken back for announcing release of 3.5 PC in August followed by Mac in September. 1st release for PC is now nearly 8 months away, last 3rd final 5 months, September release date for Mac is now 7 months gone, last I read was that ZBrush 3.5 Mac + GoZ PC will be next, but next was UVMaster, and then release 1.Quarter 10, broken promise after promise…
In 4 months Pixologic put out 3 releases for PC, refining and bugfixing ZBrush for PC. They just finished PC version and then begun working(?) on a Mac release. But I don´t know, after waiting so long(expecting to came out), I devinitily lost hope.
for us trying to do professional work, this is absolutely a nightmare. What many of us Mac-users are forced to do is buying a second licence(for half what we already paid) for PC, buying some Windows and run it in bootcamp.
When I know all that before I definitly hadn´t bought ZBrush for Mac.
Its not that I´m hating ZBrush, it can be my favourite app, but (Mac-release) its lacking a lot(), and it have to be made with the same care, same feature list, and releasing at same time as PC.
I tried out last year version of mudbox/Mac, and to be polite, its not very responsive !(no rival to ZBrush, even on Mac side).
I tried out Maxywell for Mac 2,5 years ago and its simply not working on OSX. Last year I tried out V1.7 and it worked now, they announced V2 coming soon, I bought it in summer and they released it within 3months of announcement. Its 64bit and since then I received 3 upgrades of Main Application (simultaneous PC and Mac, I even can use it with same license on bootcamp I even can use the PlugIns in every app they support), and some PlugIn Upgrades. Every time I got a notification via email.
Most annoying for me(and other customes?) is Pixologic not talking to their customers even when such a big delay happens and lack of reliable information(release dates). just a little example
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=79173
Every time in office my colleages catched me looking for ZBrush they are laughing out loud.
I had to apologize my bad english and for writing down this post, because its obviously unnecessary(because of Pixologic not responding), but after such a long time I had to write down my frustration once. End up dreaming!!
Happy ZBrushing
p.s.@ nezumi : are you working on PC or Mac?
MacBookPro 2,4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo , Mac OSX 10.5.8 ZBrush 3.2
Lets just hope Christmas comes early this year! I’m thinking August.
