Anyway, you’re so right about “whining” being a complete waste of one’s time here, nezumi?
Some of us have had to learn it the hard way.
Everybody seems to agree with the anti-whining post…while I am totally with Pyapor on all counts… we are not whining…we are just wishing aloud…and also to have a sculpt and texture paint application with the Zapplink plugin… I love zBrush and my version 3.2. It is a brilliant application for any digital artist. I can easily wait for 3.5 or skip to 4…but zapplink is really a very unpleasant missing link in the Mac version…makes perfection incomplete…
Complaints, or legitimate requests for information regarding delays in upgrades for Mac users have always been labeled in these forums as just “whining” and an annoyance.
As a frustrated, but dedicated ZBrush/Mac user myself, I’ve done my share of “whining” over the years. Took me a while to learn that nobody cares, and that no one wants to hear about it. We are the “crazy uncle” living in the attic no one wants to talk about. Unfortunately, that’s just how it is. So, I’m just sitting here, quietly, patiently, waiting for Pixo to toss me a bone.
Pixo toss me a few! Let me just step out of the box for a min. Today I got pulled aside for someone who needs a “favor” for a cub scout troop logo design for his kid. So, this being a favor with no intentions of compensation, I was reluctant to say yes. So what happened? I’m opening illustrator as we speak! Knowing how busy I am to make a deadline/rent, I simply should have said “sorry but, I can’t”. Like pixologic I have a problem saying “No!”
Pixologic strikes me as a company that can’t say no either. These forums are flooded with “whines” of frustration from everyone - myself included. At some point we need to step back and ask ourselves should we just shut up for a bit and let the team work some things out? If we keep sending them back with demands of more, then of course we’ll get the result of something rushed. We’ve been spoiled!
We get ZBrush 4 for free. We’re given free assets left and right in their downloads section. We’ve been getting free upgrades for the last three rev’s. This for a program standard in most studios. Oh yeah, let us not for get all for less than $1000.00. In this economy, you have to admit that takes some skill and strategy. For now, be patient and keep working with your current pipeline.
We are the “Crazy Uncle!” We’re the crazy uncle who assumes we are always owed something for nothing. I hate that guy!
The point is fairness isn’t given out for free; yet that’s what we’ve been taking for the past couple years now. Are we going to keep feeling good about that? Just trust that there is method to the madness… and relax!
I love you and my Mac bros!
So, if we can’t whine here anymore, what else we gonna talk about?
I went to a strip club last night, was fun, all the women reminded me of macs
Some of us whinners have a business to run though, and sometimes waiting isnt an option depending on the situation! I know the company i work for was very interested in zbrush until the features they were interested in never showed up when they were expected so we ended up going a different route. I am in the works in starting a studio soon and am holding on as long as i can to zbrush.
You are right though, I myself may never do anything at the level of expertise as the zbrush veterans anytime soon…so I agree with you there. However making the tools easier to use is definitely a key element that i am looking for for that very reason. I didnt have a lot of time to really focus on a lot of the techniques used when i first started learning zbrush. (This is nothing to do with modeling–mostly just uv mapping, texturing, and the technical sides of things.) All those things are becoming as easy as a click of a button to go from app to app (GoZ as we all know). Thats critical in a business sense if its truely saving hours of tedious work over the course of a project which could make or break some companies under the gun. There just isnt enough time. This is totally up for discussion considering there are many sides to this argument. I am all ears!!
I still think they should keep us informed though, considering if we had a better estimate of when these new features were going to come out, my company would of reworked their budgets to move forward on zbrush.
That isnt to say we wouldnt get it eventually, but still I’d like be able to take advantage of it at all…now we are stuck with lightwave!:evilangry
cry:
Are you LOSING money because ZB v.4 isn’t out yet?
Is your business model dependent on the release of v.4?
Are you unable to complete your projects without v.4?
If you answered yes to any of these questions you probably have bigger things to worry about than the next release date.
If you are a freelancer or temp out to larger shops the platform gap can be a little unsettling. If you have platform envy twitch and lets face it when it comes to ZBrush it’s serious. Those hiring spot it immediately and show you the door, you have no idea how hard it is out there for us Mac users.

Dmonk No, answered no to all those questions. However, our production level was not what we wanted it to be for the year even though we did well…the issue is we had an opportunity to purchase software which would of greatly improved our production process but it never came out and the money was used for another department instead…so we are stuck with lightwave now for who knows when. Thats all we have to work with for 3D…unless we wanna go to like blender which has a great pricetag
It would of been nice to of been able to have something for high poly modeling period.
I’ve used LW since v.4, Blender PWNS it hands down for myself and everyone in the pipelines I contribute to. I dont know anyone in any of the teams I’m in that still uses LW. Some of us still pay to maintain our licenses(though not jumping to core for another subscription-style app). For me, a 10+year LW-veteran, I would now always choose Blender over LW. But thats just me and everyone I work with/for. In many studios I’ve worked with, it’s usually Maya/SI/Max, but Blender is beginning to creep into these pipelines for good reason(no disrespect to SI/Maya/Max). Plus Blender and ZBrush play very well together for me and others(aside from the usual occasional scale issue, as with most every other package and ZBrush).
I hope that Pixologic will consider adding GoZ support for Blender at some point, because its not so much a joy to maintain a license to another package just to use GoZ(which I no longer do because of my “joy” for autodesk licenses ;-).
My team is pretty much been trained in Maya from the get go and one lightwave enthusiast.
I myself was trainined in Maya and had a lot of issues with the workflow change to Lightwave, but i see some value in it and I looked into alternatives. Now I am pretty much happy with Modo which I feel took the best of both Maya and Lightwave for modeling. Havent done to much animation with it yet but what I have done has been pretty straight forward.
I would rather use Maya for animation and some tools seem to work better (or at least the concept of it). I am happy with Modo though and Zbrush is bridging many of the gaps that were there over the years between programs.
I suppose an argument would be “A true artist can use any tool to create art.” however, when it comes to weapons of choice I would vote Maya,Modo,Zbrush mix. Seems to do the trick for me, I just need to find Maya for cheaper then 3500 bucks for a single user license.
hi guys, i have been wondering is GoZ out for windows yet? if not when will it be available for windows? thanks in advance =)

No other announcements. There may be updates when 3.5 for OSX is released or for v4. Dates not been announced.
I have not read all the comments here but If there isn’t any plans for a PC version of GoZ. Then could some kind person please think about making a Go-Maya for PC version of Maya 2011.
Thanks,
Of course a pc version of GoZ will be released. Did you read the link in my previous post.
A couple of other quotes
A detailed GoZBrush communication protocol and software development kit (sdk) will be made available at GoZBrush.com following the release of GoZ.
This will enable you to easily customize GoZ to fit your existing pipeline.
Between now and the release of Z4, we will continue to refine GoZ and add support for additional applications.
The updated GoZ be included with ZBrush 4 and will be a free upgrade for all registered users of ZBrush on Windows and Mac systems.
it should have been already released…
