Alien (Stylized/Cartoony)

Heres a character I started a few nights ago. Right now, he has a very stylized cartoony body. I’ll post some full pics tomorrow. I plan on sticking with the cartoony body, I just have to work out some kinks to make it match the head a little better. Many updates to come!

A monkey’s alien cousin.
Nice work - I really like the feel here.

Would perhaps a smoother forhead make a nice comic contrast against the wrinkly face?

Great expression captured, sets a great base to work from.

Heres another update. There not much detail yet, but Im slowly getting there. I’m a box modeler, so I like to get in place first. Im still working out the conecpt. I know I want him to have a cane, aswell as a funny pet =)
Thanks for the feedback

He certainly is a very funny character; well designed and thought out.

Keep up the great work.

Paul.

Looking great and the body adds so much more with regard the comic element.

What softywear do you use to box model - Silo ?

Bravo

Paul from Australia: Thanks Paul =)

boozy floozie: Hey boozy. Im using Maya and of course Zbrush. So far, the only parts Ive done a zbrush pass on are the Head and legs.

Another quick update. He’s getting there =)

I don’t know why but this reminds me of the look of the alien character design in M.I.B movies.

Great look to this. A definite “watch this one” thread.

Mikala: Yeah, it does kind of have an M.I.B. feel to it. It kind of reminds me of the aliens from Mars Attack aswell. I wasn’t really going for anything in particular, but most of my personal stlyized stuff ends up looking a little Tim Burton’ish =)

Heres a small update. I’m gonna start working on his pet soon, which im really excited about =)

fantastic character, great pose too

wow, the pose itself gives the character so much life, very nice, although it doesnt really look like it, but it almost reminds me of the movie “mac and me” dont know if anyone knows this movie, but it reminds me of childhood, weeeeeeeird… haha good work

Heres a quick update with the pet in the scene. Still a long ways to go, but im happy with the progress so far =) As always, feedback is welcome.

Nice work, and I love the addition of the pet. Will be following this one :+1:

Another small update. The plan from here is to update the shirt, pet, and cane in Zbrush, and then begin texturing.

Loving this. The pose reminds so much of a test done to tease the crew at ‘Jim Henson’s’ by a young woman that worked for me a ways back - ‘The Moon Toad’. Had a similar cane, only 1 leg of course and also similar clothing from waste down, no pet though.

This is not to imply anything, it just brought back a great memory of a great character. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Jason.

I’de love to see it. Let me know if you know where I could find it.

Hahaha, well I don’t have much from that project unfortunately. And with that company deceased, I have no access. Found a frame from that time, used for an ad in Animation Magazine. Best I could do, I may have a full video from 2003 Filmart Hong Kong around, I’ll look.
