Alex- Portrait of a Young Woman

@ Rusnar,aliengraphic,living_for_cg : Thanks for your kind words!

@ Peng, I’m currently writing a tutorial for a magazine about the whole creation process of Alex. I will post later more about it.
But I’m sure the same could be rendered using Vray. I choose for Arnold because its less technical and more intuitive to work. But
at the end it comes down to the artist who use it.

This is so brilliant in the most simple way, pure genius, thanks for sharing your pipeline on this.
You just raised the bar even higher

Really fine work…

Impressive work - Looking forward to your article!

Dat lips!

Seriously nice work.

F*ck YEAH SUPER ULTRA BEAUTIFUL MAO! One of the best cg portraits Ever made

Stunning model. Keep up the good work!

I’m hoping to get to that level someday.

Thanks DimitrisLiatsos, blueferret, iaki,Brojay : Thanks for the compliments.

@Fabio, thanks buddy!

During the radio silence I actually been trying a lots of stuff like different look with or without makeup and different view angles ,one render turn out quite creepy when I decide to test render the eyes and teeth :

That’s some really great work there on that character. Maybe you said prior, but what did you use to render the final images posted (i.e. Maya, ZBrush, other)?

I have been looking for some good tips on teeth sculpting and thought you did a good job of the mouth “bag” and look of real teeth. Can you post any tips or links to somewhere I may be able to see more? Would like to know more about how you sculpted this part.

Also, can you share some tips on how you did the great looking Santa Hat with the fur trim? I have been trying to get fringe and trim to look like this but have not gotten results this good. Did you use ZBrush Fibermesh or something else?

Please let us know when and where to find your article in the magazine when it comes out.

Thanks and happy sculpting.

Thanks Jeff,

It was all Maya, Zbrush for the haircut design/grooming and Arnold for rendering. No compositing one beauty pass with some color correction at the end.
Sculpting the teeth was just looking at some dental references of teeth. What might be interesting is that I didnt use layered shader to get the enamel looks.
Instead I physically model the enamel layer on top of the orginal teeth. Gives it more translucent depth feel.

Santa Hat was done using a plugin called Peregrin Yeti . ( peregrinelabs.com/yeti/) Its a node base hairsystem .Totally non destructive and easy to use.

I’'ll post some links later when it comes out. It will also cover the fibremesh part which I explain prior.

Cheers,

Mao

That is amazing work.
