About the next step for ZBrush

After watching the clip, I couldn’t be any more impressed even if some kind of supreme being appeared before me! The hairs on the back of my neck were tingling in excitement :grimacing:

I guess this clearly defines Zbrush as 100% a true artists tool rather than for those pure number crunching, box modeling techie types.

Zbrush 3.0 looks like something from the far off future that’s been warped back in time to 2007!!

Ofer Alon, is truly a creative and technical genius!

Those are the thing that makes me nervous, i have no idea what some of you freak will be up with.

I hope i can keep the pace.

This has got to be the most spectacular breakthrough in digital art creation ever!.Well done to all involved with the creation of ZBrush.Pixolator you are a true visionary.

I do have one question.-As I am still a demo user, if we purchase 2.5 before the March 15 release date are we still elligible for the upgrade or do we need to be a currenty registered user?

Hmmmm… I looked a bit closer at this red material… When I am not completely dense today, then it is a SSS Material. That would mean that there are also changes in the material section…

Quick… a diaper…

patroussety, read Pixolators first post carefully and you will find the answer. I think you will be happy.

i still would like to know if it will have realtime smooth shading while sculpting

Yes.

And Shadows if I read correctly. Talk about heaven.

If this program sadly goes the way of Creature House Expression (Win only now), you’ll probably be right. Being that I’m a 2D artist first and a 3D dabbler second, if ZBrush 3 does go Windows only, I’m not wasting the money to purchase a copy of XP, Vista, or a new PC for the privilege of running this latest version. I make no apologies, if an app doesn’t run on OS X, forget it.

Smoke and mirrors a side, I’d like to set some things straight… It is absolutly unnecessary to mantain 5 versions of the same app for the Mac. (Assuming the code for Z3 plays ball with Xcode 3 right now) If you compiled Z3 today as a 32 bit Universal Binary for 10.3, not only would it work in 10.3, but it will also work in 10.4 PPC/Intel and 10.5 PPC/Intel flavors. Apple’s been pretty good about backwards compatibility. Compiling beyond 10.3 would only be necessary if Pixologic wanted to take advantage of any of the new advances made in 10.4 and/or 10.5. A Universal Binary compiled for 10.3 or 10.4 you’ll cover most Mac users (PPC and Intel) right now.

To address the issue of a 64 bits, 32 bit apps will be able to exist in a 64 bit OS X. Also according to MacWorld’s First Look at 10.5, rewriting an app to make it 64-bit will take quite a bit of rework. Keep in mind the only real-world advantage that most users running a 64-bit app will see is the ability to gobble more than 4GBs of RAM at a time, in the case of Zbrush would come in handy. Until 10.5 is released, I wouldn’t sweat it for now. Other developers will be slow to move to 64-bit and the life span of most computers range between 2 to 5 years. For the long-term, this isn’t a big deal in my view.

If there will be a Mac version of Z3, I’m assuming Pixologic is ironing out the differences between what’s necessary to compile for Windows and the Mac. (This assumes Zbrush 3 wasn’t writing in something wacky like Pascal or Visual Basic…) Until then, I’m going to patiently sit on my hands for now… :frowning:

that’s the best news in new year.

When is this good stuff released?

The answer is hidden on the first page of this secret thread:

Can matcap capture SSS shading? And have they changed the way the lighting works, so you can actually place lights in 3d space?

I thought I was going to be depress with another high hope announcement…

…I WAS WRONG

No need for actors, we can make real people with Z3. Is it real, or Zbrush … lol lol

Thanks for the inspiration Zbrush Staff and Testers!!

You can already place lights in 3D space with the Point light function and the §osition button. But, and that is my personal opinion, that is like flogging yourself slowly to death with scented shoe laces.
