A Zbrush Animation Project

Hi everyone!

I will use this thread to post some work used in my ongoing animation project. This is my first try using Zbrush for modeling. My models posted here are first try/first to go models, because I just simply do not have enough time to redo the models, if I ever want to be finished with my animation. I will keep posting here untill my animation is finished. I will even try to post some animation tests using Zbrush models. I am very curious how good Zbrush and Maya can work together.
I wish everyone best luck with their projects.
Comments are more than welcome.

Hi there.
I was out of town for some time, was visiting ComiCon in San Diego and now I am back to LA. It was great and crazy, like always. Have met some great people there, got some job offers.
And back to work now.

Thanks to all of you [IllustrateLife](http://member.php?u=44064), [wenna](http://member.php?u=1088) and Zbrush girl [vivien](http://member.php?u=16183) for being my frst visitors here. Vivien - thanks for the special ladies support. [IllustrateLife](http://member.php?u=44064) - I have developed some new facial rigs, which i would like to apply to the face/neck area. Once it is finished, the model will overgo bigger geometry adjustments before rigging. I believe there is a good chance that you will see something coming soon after Siggraph 2005 Thanks for the early support. [](http://member.php?u=16183)

To prepare for body modeling, here’s my first ever modeling of a body, and my first time using instead of my familiar Maya - Zbrush for this kind of modeling.

Besides this, I was buisy inventing ways how to apply pre-made displ. maps to newly imported models in Zbrush, eather using GUV or UVs - layouted in Maya. Smart Symmetry was a tricky one, but I learned adjusting central axes with unified skins. I could just find general tutorials on this, which didn’t solve my problems, so I was forced to invent.
I learned alot.

Work in progress.
Zbrush
Sphere modeling
Rough texturing and outlining

Upcoming work:
Finish modeling of the man body
Fine texturing
Rigging in Maya

Great work.

Make sure to post your steps and settings to help others. I’m in the process of doing that myself as it still isn’t clear on how to get out of Zbrush and the Practical Guide is sorely out of date.

That is some pretty fine modelling, i like your style, it looks like it was sculpted if you are looking for a good workflow bewtween zbrush and maya, you can’t beat the gnomon dvd’s by Zac Petorac ('scuz the spelling) they are a bit pricey though. I’m interested in what your talking about with pre made displacement maps, can’t say i completly understand, could you elaborate?

Hi Jason

Thanks for support and interest.

I am ripped between this project and my 14h/day job, so that there is almost no time for writing. I also believe it would be to early for me to do this as I am jut a beginner in Zbrush and very much in modeling. I am a animator and rigger, who now dares to think in forms. At some later point of time when I am sure what I am doing, what functions and what not, I will be more than happy posting a summary of settings and a pipeline description in form of a tutorial. I promise.

Hi [hitch](http://member.php?u=243) Thanks for the kind words, and a big thanks for the references.

I didn’t know they have staff like this. With premade displacment maps I mean anything what we might have created in other programs - a grayscala 16bit image. Let say you have a 3D scan of the body of high RES. - normaly you introduce this maps into photoshop and adjust them. Tidious work. Not using Photoshop at all but Zbrush - would be much better and faster, because of reel time update of the bump, or spec, or displ, or other maps. I experienced issues with middle axes, and some disregularities applying displacment maps. This is waht I was working yesterday and today. But now it works.

:DIt’s arnold… hehe

I like the first head also, looks a bit cartoon like with the big nose :+1:

welcome Suzana… the face is kinda funny… and congratulations for the bodybuilder body… very well done!!

Hi pixelsoul and pinkarman!
Thanks for the good support.

I forgot mentioning that the face doesn't belong to the torso abowe. This are two different models for the same animation project. I got some more conceptualising to do for the face - where to put it,

before continuing. Don’t want to many mistakes along the line, which I could regret later on. I have to admit I also got a bit bored by the face.

Yep, the dude above is supposed to be a pritty common, a bit funny looking. I will continue working on him in about 3 days. Thanks again.

pixelsoul, arnie never had those abs lol.

Suzana, this is coming along great! Like the bod!

PS… also a female…

really good work.

hehe well he closer resambles the model then me
