Indeed Zbrush is evolving to a very powerful modelling program.
I witnessed how the already offending caricature of a negro head was easily morphed into the mask of an ape. The derived geometry could be modelled further into an…ape?
Watching this movie makes me feel sad. It shows me that a creator of wonderful software can still be spiritualy in his infancy.

Dear ZBCModerator,

To my amazement I noticed that you removed my message from Zbrush Central while the movie is still available for download on your site.

The sneak preview does not only make me sad and disappointed but is very degrading to a whole race of people. I hesitate about the authors intention or he has to be completely naive. I cannot contemplate an artist modelling for hours on the features of a face without being aware of what he is doing.

Anyway, since my letter you cannot speak anymore of unintentionally offending people. Now continuing with making this movie available to the public on Internet is an offending act to a large part of the world community.

So I propose to replace the movie as soon as possible for maybe a happy morph of Ofer Alons own face. Otherwise I cannot take your apology very seriously.

It is a fictive character Zmad. I don’t see why you construed it to be racist.

Wouldn’t it be possible to write a zscript that could convert and export zsphere ‘bones’ to Maya bones in a Maya Ascii file for example? The same might be possible for other 3D apps that support text based file formats too. Just a thought!! =)

Aurick I have not seen this documented before. Has it been? It is an excellent thing to know, really useful. I just stumbled upon it by accident.

Seems like exporting a basic rig would be feasible. This company does a great job of bringing Poser joint parameters into other software as bone rigs.

I don’t know the programming side of it, but it seems possible to take the start and end positions of the zspheres and translate that into bone positions. Some kind of weight map or fall off zone would be good in there. Even a basic positions-only bone rig would be great, then it could be further set up for animation in the anim app. Wouldn’t that be something if it could read bones in as zspheres too.

I’d love to see something like that to export to Alias/Kaydara FBX format. FBX is a great interchange format.

It would be possible but a better solution would be to make Zspheres into thier own shape node within Maya. As a shapenode you would be able to retain nearly all of the abilities of zspheres working in zbrush. Also making an accompanying zsphere geometry shader for mental ray would be handy as well.

In the head video, are the zsphere lines being drawn freehand and the points being automtically placed according to the underlying mesh subdivison, or are they being drawn point by point?

As much as I think having these features ready by x-mas would be best present I could get this holiday season. I think this update is a long ways out.

Of all the software I use, I feel that Zbrush has been an excellent investment. Not only is it a gorgeous program, but the pride they take in it and the way they keep improving it is amazing. Usually when you get a new version of a program they have finally fixed things that have been driving everyone nuts for ages (or not, its still easy to lose your symmetry in lightwave, and you only have it on one axis, and it does that freaky backwards thing when you move to the opposite side of the object and your brain has to work like your seeing the world upside down), but zbrush doesn’t do that, it makes your life easier in ways you never imagined. I am guessing we would get an estimate for time if they were sure themselves when it will be ready. Unfortunately, patience is not a virtue. :rage: It is the regretful acceptance of the reality that we have no choice but to wait. :o

This new features are something i couldnt even dreamed of. Like something i’ve missed for since i’ve started to draw and model but i didn’t know what it was. This is by far the most inovative product in the world of graphic applications and applications at all.

I just have one simple question. When can we expect this upgrade? Of course, i know that you can’t give us the precise answer, but at least aproximately: Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4 of year 2005. I need it for future planing of my work, be cause this upgrade will boost my workflow, so i will work 2 or even 3 times faster.

Keep up the good work! If any of the future upgrades/versions would be as inovative as 10% of this upgrade, then you got nothing to fear of. The future of this product is forseen: Number 1 - best selling 3d/modeling software.

a question just occurred to me: are these previews of features that will be in zbrush3 or features that will be in zbrush2.xx?

the thread topic says “next zbrush-update” while the video demonstrations say “next version of zbrush.” so I was just wondering whether it’s z3 or z2.x because “update” and “next version” don’t always mean the same thing in terms of software releases.

Abxy: I am very sure it means an update to 2.0 which will bring in features included in the Mac release, bug fixes and the newly announced features. I guess the PC and Mac updates will be released simultaneously this time. Just guessing. But it is not Zbrush 3.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure this will be ZB2. something. I think you’ll find we’ll be paying for ZB3! :o) (still can’t believe this will be a freebie! Wow!)

Think of this though, if this is just a point release, what kind of surprises are we going to get in ZB3!!!
