•••A Sneak-Preview of the next ZBrush-Update•••

I’d say that nobody knows till it’s on your disk. BUT to joint the wild guessing, it would be foolish to cut ouf all the .ztl’s people created. I expect that new .ztl’s might have more atributes but that the old ones can at least be read.

BUT who knows… ALl we know it’s still a moving target.

Sebcesoir: All ZBrush versions are backward compatible. This means that a file that was created with an earlier version can be loaded (and even enhanced) by a newer ZBrush version.

this does not include early betas of 2.0  ;).

if you have a older version then import it to a newer version, that is Forward Capability
you are starting off in a older version, and moving Forward’ to a newer version.

if you have a newer version, and you go back and import into a earlier older version, that is backward Capability your starting off new and going back to old your going backward, that is backward Capability backward Capability doesn't apply in All ZBrush versions if i have a ZSphere in 2.0 and import it into 1.23 guess whats going to happen? 1.23 doesn't know what a ZSphere is. what if i took a Zscript in 2.0 that had Transform:Pinch and Transform:Nudge and loaded it into 1.23 1.23 doesn't know what Pinch or Nudge is so the answer is no backward Capability doesn't apply in All ZBrush versions

that is Forward Capability

No, Aurick was right. Your description was backwards-incompatible.

The ZTLs are forwards-compatible. The software is backwards-compatible. Let’s not split hairs.

Wathever - I just hope the update will be compatible.
So don’t rush @ coding

Hey guys,

Like many other software, just make a first update, and after the final update, for Silo its like that, they take care about customers… hi hi hi … kasser…

nope edonkey is right. backwards compatibility means that if i create a fiie in a newer version of a software an older version can open it.

that probably will not be the case in ztl files going forward. 1.55 cannot deal with the enhancements in 2.0 for example. nor will 2.0 understand the changes in 2.5 but certainly you will be able to export a mesh from 2.5 and import it in 2.0. what you won’t be able to do is use the 2.5 enhancments in 2.0. think about it. illustrator 10 can handle transparency and can open an illustrator 8 file. 8 can open an illustrator 10 file only if it’s been saved in an 8 compatible file format and 8 can’t open an illustrator 10 native file. the backwards compatibility component is the ability to save as an 8 compatible file from 10.

the same thing happened with quarkxpress 6. it is not backwards compatible with quark 4 - meaning you cannot open 6 files in 4 but you can open 4 files in 6. this is because of the major overhaul in mac os x. os 9 simply isn’t compatible with quark 6 so 4 is out of luck.

Omg… Desperation has driven them all into madness…

Might I suggest some soothing music and meditation… should do the trick!

lol

if it don't have Capability then its basicly what i said with out using the word "incompatible" if it's not compatible then its "incompatible" same thing:)

which makes it “incompatible” on All ZBrush versions

as i stated above in the example not true;)

was that meditation or Medication

Hi everyone

I was at Siggraph2005 - and it was just great.
I could not stop watching the screen presenting ZB 2.5.
I will defenitaly update the program to 2.5.
I bought 2 - and I hope there is a special deal for an upgrade.

Zbrush team, keep up the great work!

if you bought 2.0 i think this upgrade is the last Freebie at least for a while

edonkey thank you very much.
I will hurry up to download the version. I never heard that another software company did something nice like this. I guess, I finally found the software, which suits me the best. Thanks to the great Pixologic team, which I had the honor meeting at Siggraph and a special thanks for the information edonkey!

Hi smileman

Hey guys,

Like many other software, just make a first update, and after the final update, for Silo its like that, they take care about customers… hi hi hi … kasser…

I think if Pixologic did somthing like that the very sky could rip open & shower red hot firey armageddon on all of us. I have thought one of the greatest things about the company is they don’t release buggy software, unlike some other companys who have to meet a dumb imposed deadline even if they must cut a few features & fix the bugridden code on the fly with patch after patch.

Lets just hope they never turn into Microsoft. Tho the money would be nice

There is a special deal! When you own 2 right now, 2.5 is for free. But, you can still send me 50$ if it makes you feel better!

edonkey: “Backward compatible” is the correct term for software that can read or write data created by an older version (such as ZBrush). You can learn more about this here.

pete330: See the above reply.

Hope you’ll find this helpful.

Dear All, of my favorite software team…

First I love you, secondly I’m depressed, please I wanna make a suicide , I cannot wait more… arghhhhhh…

I have a little request in term of .ztl, or obj… format, can you do some different import and export conversion format ?

Like 3ds, and more… carrara… etc… I like this software for sure…

Google. Find the free .OBJ import plugin for your software of choice if it doesn’t already come with that. And be happy.

Native formats offer no advantages over .OBJ, where OBJ does offer significant advantages over other standards such as .DXF and .3DS.

I mean, is it Pixologic’s responsibility to support every platform you might possibly take your ZBrush models into? Or the other developers’ responsibility to support the open standards that everyone as a whole seems to have adopted?

You misunderstand. I was saying that your explanation was incompatible… with reality. Because it’s backwards?

Hence, the wink:
