A little challenge...

ffroyd! Glad your still with us! What do you have to show you sly devil??!!

I just took shipment of my mighty MacBookPro 17", and I really have to get back to this stuff, hard to drag myself away from the pretty box… getting pulled back…

hi Jason,

I liked the hands of your character so much, that i just had to steal them and put them on one of my own chars i rigged in carrara  Hope thats fine and thanks for the great info on this thread

Doc3.jpg

Erklaerbar, you are welcome. Glad you like the hands, great looking character! Can we see more of the little fella/fillie?

thank you;) Hopefully there is more to be seen, I just have no time at the moment to play around with it:confused:

Hi Jason

I am still learning the posing part from this thread. Need to say it has become so long that I loose track midway. It will be better to summarize the main points in one post Jason:idea:

I am attaching my zsphere model here- do you think I will have probs with this kind of model ?

[yomo-in-color2.jpg](javascript:zb_insimg(‘38381’,‘yomo-in-color2.jpg’,1,0))

Well, I think anyone wanting a quick summary should start taking notes and post them. I tend to forget to put down things a do daily. Then I’ll review it. Hahahahahahha. I really was a instructor at several colleges!

OK wckedsunny, as for your character, you will most likely have issues with the tail and hind legs. Take a closer look at the ferret/lemur/critter/thingy and review those posts.

Then store the morph, do some test poses in the known hard areas, like shoulders, mouth, hands, feet, etc., if all goes well do some basic modeling, then test again. A good approach for a beginner would be to do this at every level as you move up in detail.

On another note: I am looking for free time, must be around here somewhere. Gotta find it before work on ‘Origins’ begins as I would like to do some kinda video tut, zscript type thing for all this zsphere stuff. Of course I will then have to update it when the new Zbrush arrives to include any new features. My new MacBookPro 17" is begging to be abused with the Studio Pro Suite I just installed. Of course ZBrush doesn’t work on it - yet.

Jason what I have understood till now is to use rotate tool a lot( which I use) but also use it at a low subdivision level.

Also I have not much problem with the tail length, maybe in the connector zsphere.

But I get probs while rotating the wrist and ankles. It gets twisted.

Also I have serious problems creating the different expressions of the character, specialy the lizard one. Actually have never created them till now.

You have been in this field for a long time, can you refer any book, tutorials or even online site where I can learn how to create the blend shapes or even get refferal pics for creating expressions? specially for toon characters like this lizard where it becomes a bit complex to depict human expressions because of its long jaw.

Hello wckedsunny, rotate tool is for zspheres, not lower sub level.

You can only rotate a zsphere in 1 axis, or you get issues.

Yes, wrist and ankles are issues, have you downloaded the samples posted up and compared them to yours? To see why they work and yours does not?

You can use the low levels 1-3 and just move the key polys to get expressions. Other than that, looking at the critters where I’ve posted a few expressions might help - depends on your zsphere structure.

Books, smooks, you have the web at your finger tips - wish I had that back when. Oh yeah, it was just being invented, long, long, really long ago.

Grab your favorite movie with a similar character, grab the trailer clips off Apples Quicktime site, lots of stuff. Remember that Zbrush is fundamentally a modeling app, that many of us are pushing to far more exciting uses. So don’t be afraid of combining processes, no golden rules, just progress for all.

Keep posting, post each area yo have issues with so we can clearly see it, we’ll help you get it sorted. As a quick test, have you thought of grabbing the critter I posted and just stretching him a bit to accomplish your character? Might get you rolling, that was the intended purpose.

Jason

the problem is I am not getting proper info for creating expressions online.Thats the reason I asked you if you can refer any book or online tutorials.

I got hold of this book - http://www.amazing3d.com/services/3dbkchar.html
Book name is Animating Facial Features and Expressions

But now I found out they not even shipping to India.:cry:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes: I am a bit frustrated right now.:angry:small_orange_diamond:angry:

yes I can understand zbrush wasn’t meant for doing lot of things, but then I am not even animating, just posing for my comics.:D;)

Hahaha, ok, try these links…

grabbed these for you, nothing is perfect. Like I suggested, grab some shows to watch, characters, dvds that show the animation and the voice actor are really great to help get you rolling.

None of these are being endorsed by me, just grabbed them quick from reference files I keep reviewing stuff constantly.

Let me know if this helps you.

For the record - posing is animation if you keep changing it. It’s all stop-motion!

Thanks Jason

those are really cool links.

I might even get that book from ebay as well, thanks to Marcus.:+1:

Thank You Jason for starting this thread.
It inspired me and I’ve learned a lot.
here is my first full-ZSphere Character trial I’m on wip at the moment.

I’m quite happy with how the mesh is behaving, just the fingers and specially thumbs on the Hands are out of control sometimes in different poses.

Happy zmodeling!
kel

Nice work kelvin273! The hand/finger issue is the result of not enough zspheres to control the axis rotation issues. A little tweaking and you are ready to do some great characters. Poses look good, post more.

Oh yeah… Welcome. Glad the thread has been of value.

Awesome stuff you all are doing here with Zspheres! I’m sure I’ve got more to learn than contribute at the moment. I’ll pop in if inspiration strikes.

Wecome Marsyas, and you never know! Many people here thought that, only to stun and awe others after a little playing. We hope this helps get you and others up to speed.

Heyas!

Don’t know if it’s useful or anything new but I did figure out an easy way to make poseable eyeballs for zsphere figures by using insert local mesh:

eyes.jpg

I added a simple zscript to show how.

Note, however, that if you change the pre-divide setting for the model, you’ll have to remember to change it every time you open the file–the setting always defaults to 2 and will erase all your edits to the mesh. Changing the setting after opening the file will restore your saved edits, however.

hi, newbee here- well, not new to modelling- just zb.
and here i was thinking i was headed down another blind alley and i see there are geniusses like j. belec willing to experiment- seemingly without sleep or sustinence- to impart their incredable knowledge to advance the skills and abilities of others to use zb
sometimes i think people this smart should go to that room inhabited by an infinate number of monkeys on an infinate number of typewriters just to see what they’d come up with lol
many thanks- even though what you’re talking about most of the time is way above my skills at the moment you have inspired me again and again with your generosity and patience
even though zb might not be the app i’m loking for (it has no ‘make me a great model’ button yet lol) people like yourself and others who constantly give their time selflessly and so often rekindle my faith in human kind
many thanks for your superhuman efforts
appreciate it

sorry for yet another non-informative reply- just wanted to let you know there are people out here who read and absorb the knowledge you impart

regards, skylertonne

Welcome skylertonne. We all appreciate a pat on the head now and again. Also reminds me to get some of the new stuff up here soonest. If you have issues with the zsphere learning curve, just yell.

Last year I did the sacred monsters of all time, but didn’t share a smuch as I could have. So…

Happy Holloween Trickery.

Hi Jason,

this is new version of my bear.
I hope you like it. Only with Zspheres, no tweeking.
