A little challenge...

Hehe, Atwooki, that is a start. I like the fiberbrush, from much earlier tests I did, but since you can’t control the direction of the fibers very well, it left me disappointed. However that is sorta cool looking image.

Hi Jason

Don’t think I can either (or at least battling with length variations etc)

Here’s an update; with and without Fibres:

Any more, could turn out like your ‘porcupiny-type’ char in your other thread

Ok, so I have a couple of questions for those involved with this thread. Can you pose a model after you have modelled it and textured it? From what I see, you can. I will possibly be working on illustrations for a childrens book, and I felt I could get good results using ZBrush using these methods. I am just a little unsure of how you go about posing and such. Any help is appreciated.

Hello DMerchen, Yes you can pose after modeling if you use zsphere’s and make sure to store the base morph before doing any modeling in Preview.

You will have to read through the thread to understand what to watch out for, however near the end we were having some good rules on what to do and what not to do. Basically, once the morph is stored, you can reposition you zsphere aramture into the pose you like. Then Preview, and you should have a character/object in a pose. When starting out, do this alot at low level subdivisions to see if it goes goofy. This is a result of more than one rotation at a joint in multi-axis. So sometimes you want to rotate from between zsphere’s, sometimes you want to rotate a zsphere at a pivitol point and only experience and testing will guarantee success.

All that said, we will endeavor to help you in any way.

Jason:
Wanted to thank you for the tip on FinalRig by Radiant Square.
Just bought the pro version tonight. Amazing stuff. Owe you bro.

Hello odhinn, that is a pretty cool tool. Especially if you need quick setup and animating in Maya. The latest vesion is pretty nice with a lot of bug fixes and a full spine. The split spine was very cool, but had issues when you wanted to work with other tools, say Motion Builder.

Show us some of the cool work when you have time.

Trying something very new based on some success with Atwooki, for pc to Mac transfer. Thought I’d share while we are testing.

Using everything contributed by all, I think the process is pretty repeatable.

I have changed a few things with this character in particular - no XYZscript use at all. Trying to eliminate as many possible issues to get a solid base process to work from.

I have been concentrating more on the Mac to PC issue, and hopefully those I have handed tests will provide me results over the next few days.

The road to a solution progresses, but here is how it’s shaping up.

OK, Atwooki and I have been going back and forth with some success.

I recreated this character in Zbrush OSX, Atwooki opened it and added stuff in Zbrush Windows, I got it back and posed it. What??!! No way!!!

Not fully solved yet, but I think we are getting very close.

(Edit: Their are times when I feel this becomes a monologue.)

That second pose sort of makes him look like he’s skydiving. :+1:

Well billrobertson42, that was sorta what I was thinking posing him.

So it’s official, Atwooki and I got a zsphere character togo back and forth without it messing up!

We’ll try to work through a couple more to post the solution for everyone and that will be one more hurdle removed!

Oh yeah - magnets are working with this approach as well!

Really?? That would be just great! looking forward to it, jason. Thank you and Atwooki for solving this! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Well as we play, I thought I’d post a new character whipped up to further test what we have gotten to work…

PPPPlease, don’t shoot, ppplease don’t shoot!

Excellent character Jason. Wouldn’t happen to have a Zsphere shot to go with that would you? How many polygons is he? He looks very smooth. Nice feet and hands too!!

PS I can’t wait to see what you two have come up with for posing and such. Isn’t 2.5 going to assist with posing too? BUT, if you start out with the correct character, it shouldn’t be a problem anyway.:+1: Just talking out loud again.

Well DMerchen, at level 1 he is 2,334 and at level 5, 149250.

Here are a few more shots to explain.

Posing works well if you follow the rules outlined so far, we are jut trying to make it easier.

Thanks for the speedy response. Nice Zsphere shots. Are you trying to get the outline down to a single post or do I need to read all 294 posts? By the way, call me Dave. I guess I should put that in my signature. Thanks again.

OK Dave, eventually I will make a tut, possible a movie to show everything. I’m showing all this in between real stuff.

However at present, reading is good for the soul.

Here are a few more…

So far this guy hasn’t broken and Atwoooki is running tests on him and earlier versions. As we progress we hope to be able to solve a few issues that have been messing people up.

Zbrush 2.5 should improve things, but I’m really not holding my breath and I use Zbrush 2 right now every day.

You have no idea how excited I am about this! I have so many ideas to use this with. How come I haven’t seen many posts from Atwooki? Just curious, or maybe I missed them. Anyway, great stuff. Do you find thinner legs and arms better? I know, read…read…read. I will get right on it. We used to have a chat set up, I was curious if you ever participated in one and if you would want to. I am not sure if they still have this, but it was useful for sharing information and asking questions. This, is my favorite thread I would have to say. Great information. Thanks to both of you testers.:+1:

PS If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. Or if you explore something else, I wouldn’t mind helping with that.

Well that’s great Dave. Atwooki really just started helping me because of another project. He’ll post more I’m sure. Several others are just busy with various job related sillyness.

We’ll be posting some stuff for people to test very soon and any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated by all.

awesome character Jason! I like the big feet.
