A Gift From Pixologic

AH, good to know… not sure who’s responsible for what these days!

Thanks aurick. Good to hear some feedback regarding the future of Sculptris. Even though Sculptris is the reason for my going though 3 mice (over use of the mouse wheel constantly zooming in and out…:D), I can’t wait to see what he’s been up to with the last many months of time going into additional improvements.

I actually like Sculptris a lot and because of the differences. Is there any chance that we will see a LITE version for MOBILE any time in the future??? It has been asked in different threads and i have 3 of the mobile apps that are out there for the iPad, but they are not quite as useful as they could be. Forger is the one that works well of the 3, but if i could just subdivide once or twice it would be closer to perfect for my needs away from the desktop. The ability to hash out ideas and later bring them into Zbrush is really conveniant and helps you put more time and focus into your art.

I would love to see a lite version for mobile devices. Just last week I was sitting in church and and a sculpting idea hit me. I started scribbling on a hand out. then went to my phone. all i had was a limited paint program. I would have loved to have had a sculpting ap. I use a Droid X, I’m sure that a light Sculptris app would run fine on it. I would pay 20$ in the droid app store for it.

Finaly we got any news and i hope they do update Sculptris with new functions and not only Zbrush integration. My attempt to try Zbrush was a disaster and i am betting all my coins in Sculptris

Sculptris is a wonderful tool. It’s simplicity is what continues to attract me to the program. I hope it continues to grow. Keep up the great work.

Simply a stepping stone to Zbrush, nothing more? Not a seperate entity that it could have evolved into?

  • on another note I am saving for Zbrush though it may take several months if not more. oh and then i’ll need a new computer to run it on which will no doubt take me another several months or more. So quite possibly more than two years will pass before i can get Zbrush up and running.

So you see that is why I hope for a fully feature rich Sculptris to tide me over until then.
Prays to the God of 3D.

ps. Would also be nice to have a Cintiq - dreams.

It’s absolutely amazing that we are still on version alpha 6.
Unless missed alpha 7 or beta, then they are no longer developing this program.

Dr Petters hasn’t posted in more than 2 years … Yes development of Sculptris seems to have stopped, but it’s still a nice tool to have …

Has someone been able to run Sculptris on the latest WINE? it keeps crashing…

I’m really disapointed and disgusted. My first thoughts about the real goal of Pixologic when the bought was right.
Pixo team was so afraid of the concurence of this little program, that they acquire both Sulpris and its author.
The only goal of you, pixo Team, was to let sculptris dying without evolutions (don’t telle me about GoZ, please), shame on you

In another world, you lioke money more than creation and your customers.

Poor Dr Petter, his works will be soon just a souvenir.

I’m with you on the disappointment, but truthfully there’s not much further he could have taken it without a Major Overhaul! … The triangle meshes produced have no edge-flow what so ever, the UV-mapper works but leaves seams in terrible spots and barely uses half the texture space. It runs on an older 32-bit Game Engine platform which gets 64-bit machines Hot!!
How ever if you learn to Retopo, UV-map, and learn to understand edge-flow, You can use Sculptris along with Wings3d, Blender, and Paint.NET and have a software combination that almost rivals the Zbrush-3DSMax-Photoshop combination!! … Learn Wings3D especially. There are functions in Wings3d that can produce geometry identicle to Zbrushs’ Group-loops. From there your model can be taken back into Sculptris (detail slider at 0) subdivided and resculpted, or you can do it in Blender using the Multi-res function which works the same as Zbrushs’ subdivision levels. Or you can take your Retopo’d, UV-mapped model Back into Sculptris and Paint your Bump details rather than going into the Subdivision Levels to do it! … Billion polygon Zbrush models are useless outside of Zbrush, the Low-poly model with Normal Map is what you want, and with the right software combination you can do it for FREE!! … No Sculptris isn’t finished, it’s still an alpha and buggy. But it’s a fantastic tool to have! Thank You DR. Petter. Thank You Pixologic!! …

Of course Sculptris is a really usefull app. It’s already a part of my workflow. I do rough sculpts in Sculptris an retopo/uv/render with Blender.

But, honestly, since Pixologic bought it, what have changed? Quad non adaptive sculpt and GoZ? Big deal !

But you’re right, the best with Sculptris is that it can be used on old machines.
With a good Windows Tablet, it could be a pleasure to use.

It just would be so nice to have a clear message from the developers.

Why are people getting angry over something that is free??? If they don’t develop Sculptris further that is their business. At least it is offered up at no cost. Like justadeletedguy mentioned there are work arounds with Wings3D, Blender, Paint.Net. You can still get Silo at a good price as it seems to stopped development.

The point is that Pixologic gives away a tremendous amount to all of its users at no extra cost. To give away another application to bring more Zbrush users in the door makes sense. If they further develop Sculptris then you really wouldn’t need ZBrush now would you???

I bought Zbrush when i took out a loan on my 401k. It wasn’t planned. I just got really tired of messing with the trial version and the opportunity came up. I thought that this is the only piece of software that i truly enjoy creating stuff in. Turns out to be the best software investment i have ever made. All of the other companies develop, develop, charge, charge and if you don’t have the coin, you get left behind.

They have been far more generous than all of the rest, so no room to complain about a freebie.

well said!:+1:

My circumstances have changed recently and it’s now going to take me a lot longer (years maybe) to have enough money for Zbrush.
We the poor user would like a few more options added to Sculptris, we do not expect an update that turns it into Zbrush as Zbrush already exists (for the rich anyway.)
Let us underlings have some hope.

Yeah woopde freaking doo pixologic realeased an app that was already free. i just wanted to see how far this app could go
and see how it could improve even if i ended up paying but now its just a toy because pixologic didnt like the attention this app was getting.

I for one would not mind paying for software like Sculptris. Actually, I would like to, on the premise that they continue to support it and release updates. It makes no sense killing Sculptris entirely. There’s money in offering cheaper, lightweight alternatives to software. Like Photoshop vs Photoshop Elements for example. Release it on Steam and I’m sure plenty of people would buy it.

I would say “Kickstart” it. But I can’t believe nobody already thought of that.
