A Gift From Pixologic

thnx for the dl, Pix team. I dled it a little while ago and its interface is pretty easy though I think everyone that tries it should use the cheat sheet and view the videos on navigation. thnx again…and the export feature works great with zbrush.

interesting to know, will Sculptris be developed further? Or it is dead and its all over now?
asking without any chance to receive an answer)))

Hi Guys,

Just starting with Sculptris.
I have a question. On some vids I see that when they push paint and the paint layout is loaded, there is a material added.
When I do this I don’t see this material slot and when I want to paint bumps I get the message that there is no material attached to the model and thus painting bumps is not possible. See attachment.
I use the Alpha 5. Any idea how to solve this.

Peace,
Rich_Art. :wink:material-slot.jpg

ZBRUSH is amazing software no doubt the stuff the models that have bee created are just again amazing and is inspiration enough to make you want to be able to do this as a professional or as a hobbiest.

The one thing that lets this down is the price tag im a regular Joe Bloggs and the cost of ZBRUSH for me is half a months rent and for some people a full months rent and possibly even more. I have a family, kids and it would probably take me 6 months to purchase this program and to be honest after saving the money I would seriously have to think about spending the money on this program regardless of how good it is.

Programs like ZBRUSH, MAYA, 3D MAX and ADOBE products like Photoshop are just ridiculously priced. I believe there probably aimed at the professionals and industries but there missing out on millions of potential buyers who would love this software but cant afford it.

I came across TOONBOOM when I was looking at doing some 2D animation and the great thing about this company is that they do different levels for example the have Kids, Home User, Professional and Enterprise software all at different price tags to meet the demand of different users.

Luckily for me and most there is some great Open Source programs for example:

Maya, 3d Max there is Blender which is really, really powerful and has now been upgraded and also includes a sculpting interface which is also really good but no where near the level of Zbrush and can become a memory hog if really detailed with all the verticies. The interface can be a bit wierd for new users but trust me stay with it and it will reward you plus its absoultley free

Gimp Instead of Photoshop
Inkscape instead of Illustrator
Anime Studio (2d animation £50 pound debut £130 professional) or synfig (free)

What I couldnt find for ages though was a ZBRUSH alternative cheaper of free until one day ( after searching every couple of weeks waiting for someone to create one) I came across SCULPTRIS obviously still not as powefull as ZBRUSH but wow just what I wanted first time I have ever used a program without having to watch a video tutorial  doesnt slow down my computer when the model becomes detailed and its free I would have even paid for it obviously not a huge amount but definatley 30/40 quid maybe a bit more Just perfect.

I congratulate Tomas Pettersson on making this program and his future at Pixologic but really worried what they intend to do with this program and can see it either disapearing and being inbedded into ZBRUSH or maybe just Maybe creating another version that will definatley be at a cost! I like how Pixologic have renamed and allowing to download for free as they put it a “gift, goodie” this program was FREE before they had it made no amendments but to its name and have the cheek to think we should be thankful sorry NO.

A MESSAGE FOR SILLY - I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH SCULPTRIS ESPECIALLY WHEN USING A WACOM TABLET WITH THE BUTTONS ON THE SIDE - I HAD SET ONE TO BE THE ALT KEYBOARD KEY I FOUND OUT THAT IF THE ALT KEY IS PRESSED YOU WILL NOT GET THE ORANGE CIRCLE AND IF YOU CLOSE OUT AND TRY TO CLICK ON ANOTHER APPLICATION IT ACTS LIKE A RIGHT CLICK SO JUST TRY PRESSING YOUR ALT KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD.

just try and find a serious hobby that costs less, I haven’t paid for zbrush since version 2

I haven’t paid for zbrush since version 2??? serious hobby that cost less???

I am serious about this hobby but restricted by large price tags which if I had lots of money would not be an issue or should I not pursue this paticular hobby because I cant afford it ??? bit of an arragant comment dont you think especially from someone who hasent had to pay for it.

I may have missed read what you said and if I have I apologise.

Thanks Bas Mazur! :+1:
But I have a problem. When I press command+z, scluptris starts beeping and I can’t do anything with it after that.
Are there any solutions?

I use the button on screen instead of a shortcut. Yeah, scuptris is freezing after using it. When it’s freezing go to ‘About X11’. Then just click away the menu and keep going :slight_smile:screenshot_01.jpg

I see, I’ll try it thanks.
By the way, I found that the undo shortcut is not command+z, but it’s control+command+z.

hey guys, im new…

my sculptris dosent start, why ??? it says that my addriver dont work or something like this… can someoner help me pls?

sry about my bad english ^^

Are you running Sculptris on a desktop or a laptop?

Thanks Jim. It’s a very helpful link!!

I think Zbrush is very fairly priced for what this software can do. Especially compared to your mainstream programs. Also the free upgrade factor.

Just Trying to see if Pixologic has revealed anything about their plans for sculptris, I mean since I feel off the earth for a bit.

This needs some ad hock GoZ love.

Make it so.

I have been using ZBrush for a long time, and I really appreciate all the hard work that went into it and the amazing community that people were able to create around this 3D tool… and provide it at such reasonable prices. I think the affordable prices is what led the community to form, or at least that’s one of the major reasons.

I think you’ve come a long way from the first version and this is another great update to the existing software.

Awesome!

Question… will this thread be THE thread to subscribe to for updates for Sculptris?? I’m having a blast using it and it’s ALLOT less complicated than ZBrush, which I own a license to as well.

Thanks… can’t wait for the next update!
