A Gift From Pixologic

Hi xenoforge,

Use the 9 key for working with only half the model and the H key to hide portions of the model, thereby improving the performance of your video card =)
With the tool Reduce Brush (Y) you manually reduce the number of triangles in the mesh and to Reduce Selected tool you can reduce this number automatically.

*I really hope you can understand me because I talk to you with the help of my friend Google Translator =)

Below, I show a model still under construction … done with Sculptris (206698 triangles)

I open Sculptris and it crashes or has an error needs to close. Any thoughts?

one quick question though (soz if it has already been answered)
is there a frame option?to automaticaly frame your selection?

That happened to me the first time i opened it up. but only once. i’ve had it crash three times on but each time it’s fully recovered.

I’ve had a much smoother ride now that, while sculpting, i regularly keep my geometry clean with the reduce brush and the zero key (cleans geometry).

None of these masking shortcuts are working right, and masking itself doesn’t paint a mask on unless I invert (or use right-mouse only).

Even if I shut down and restart Sculptris, masking is not working right.

I give up, this is not such a healthy program, methinks. Oh well.

Mask shortcuts only work with the Mask brush selected (‘M’). With the mask brush selected, hold Ctrl to mask areas off. Masked areas show up in scarlet.

@reinicke:

I tried the reduce-brush, but its quite a slow process.
But it works somehow.

//edit:

These are the “problem” areas (see image)

Will the model look worse if I reduce it to the triangle density
(not sure if this is the correct phrase?) of the torso ? Is that even possible,
without “destroying” the sculpt ?

Wtf people ? Nobody is changing the ZB interface ?! We had to get use to its stupid interface for many years now, and if they change it to Sculptris even more stupid interface… i just dont know what to say!

The moment I started using sculptris, my first thought was This is how I expected zbrush to be when I first opened it. It’s as if Zbrush has been designed to befuddle the newcomer and with sculptris, you’re creating as soon as you open it, irrespective of your previous experience. I’m not surprised that pixologic bought this. dynamic tessellation is the holy grail of sculpting applications. doesn’t this just blow zspheres and zsketch away?

Hello XenoForge.,
I tried the reduce brush on something I was working on (with the intent of exporting out the obj and retopping it in Topogun and importing it into Zbrush for more detailing), It was a 80 meg file and I slowly reduced it to almost a 10 meg file, needless to saym there was a lot of surface imperfections on the obj file on the reduced one.

I attempted to reduce the entire model. A slow process, but maybe it was my computer. I will post an example if you like. I know this is not the forum for it.

Sculptris Questions & Troubleshooting should be posted in the Sculptris Forum.

Hi,
I admit that the reduction of polygons (tris) is a slow and meticulous, and may become as difficult as the sculpture itself. So look clean only those areas where there is lower density of triangles, thus keeping the details of your template intact. See the image below the wireframe model:

Note that in the mouth, around the eyes and other areas with higher concentrations of triangles, have been preserved … Another very important too, is control over the amount of detail (Detail = Q) while the model is being developed. This command lets you control the level of detail to every stroke, allowing them to put more or less detail in very specific areas.

No not really. They each serve a purpose. you can’t punch holes through things with dynamic tessellation, so you’d have to make a ZSketch with holes in it before Sculptris. Also, extruding geometry with Sculptris is great, but sometimes it can be hard to get the limbs proportioned correctly, which is something ZSpheres make short work of.

So all three have their place, for now. It will be interesting to see how Pixologic attempts to combined Sculptris tech into Zbrush, but i doubt we’ll see them scrap Zspheres any time soon.

You can turn up the reduce strength in the options menu. Also, try zooming in and out of the surface and/or brushing from different angles. If all else fails try using your mouse for full strength reduce.

ps. Keep your geometry clean with the Zero key.

Thank you Pixologic for this gift! You never stop amazing Me:D:+1:

So interesteing!

Sculptris is just awesome, exactly what i want to create models.

This is my first work … it’s WIP, but i want feedback to it cause in the other community nobody really take a notice:

How do you report spam on this forum? There’s a jerk 3 posts above mine that needs nuking!

spam deleted. thanks BazC.

No problem! I just found the report button too

… i give a f**k to this complicate picture post problem, i’ve made a video of it. So you can see all good loking sides animated in a look around.
