A Gift From Pixologic

Nice Software…easy to use.Have a look my first test

Odd that it only causes issues on certain machines.

goode400: What are your system specs?

not to complain but why is there so many users on the forums who can’t afford z brush? surely that’s akin to the homeless congregating around the gates of a yacht club? ie if you can’t purchase the product why would you sign up to the forum?

You are right,I will now leave.:-1:

Awesome, that works.
Loving how you can adjust how much geometry it should shove into the mesh and it even remains functional at 2 million tris while blender explodes at 1.

Now excuse me, I must shape some gruesome monsterheads.

Sure  Zbrush’s Dam_Standard brush, which can be found in your LightBox, under “Brushes”, acts very similar to Sculptris’s crease brush.

In the Brush menu, there is a Slider called Brush Mod which adjusts the pinch value on some brushes. To find out the function of any Zbrush button or slider simple press Ctrl and hover you mouse over that button.

Also, it seems some ppl are having hardware issues with Sculptris. It runs great on my machine: Win7 AMD + ATi. Though Zbrush runs faster. Especially with high polygon counts.
Remember Sculptris has an OpenGL rendering engine and is still in Alpha stage.

First tests with sculptris when I just heard about it over at cgtalk

nice model Bomoh

Thanks for the info Fil - much appreciated. Still trying to find my feet, but ZBrush is superb even when I know barely nothing.

Jahya take it easy man )

LOL i just got a notification about Jahya’s post  a bit harsh wouldnt you agree ?

@ Jahya
What do you want to descripe with " Blender is beyond garbage" ?
Which company you work for ? dont be anonymous please tell…

You are an ass.

Blender gimp and other open source programs are not garbage. Blender is used in Main stream studios for both animation and Modeling.

Blender may well have more users than Zbrush. Educated ones at that. I grow tired of you Holier than tho “I’m a professional Artist”. “I crap out animation worthy models on a daily basis” bull.
I grow so tired of it. Get a life, There is no one superior tool. There is no such thing as a “Professional” artist. Only those who are lucky enough to fool some poor schmuck into thinking that their computer doodles or sneezing on a paint canvas is worth anything at all.

Sculptris was seen as a quickly growing community to be a useful tool to explore a stupidly expensive medium. Now the fear is that Pixol is going to remove that tool from the public.

Have some pitty for the Zero budget artist, before you regret taunting the poor. Trust me… you will regret it.

I’m going to hazard a guess and say Autodesk.

Intel xeon X5355 2x quad cores 2.66 ghz
3.25 gb ram
nvidia gtx 280
winxp 32 bit service pack 2

Hopefully this program gets integrated into ZBrush and we can have some peace on the forum again. Having the gimme gimme’s demanding or crying they are being left out is tiresome.
Sorry if you can’t afford a program but a person has to start paying some time. Get a part time job if you really want to continue with this. These programs don’t come about by some sort of fairy dust and magic.
It has been acquired so I would suggest you move on or learn to live with things as they are.
I do hope you find a way to stay creative though. Oh wait the program is still free.

Thanks Pixologic for the gift.

Hello, seems I can’t download sculptris, it pretty much says that the link can only be accessed by a certain server? can anyone help with this?

Well said !

I was gonna take part of this community but apparently its too awesome for me.

Tomas Pettersson, congratulations!

I think people are jumping the gun. We have no idea what Pixologic plan to do with Sculptris.

They may integrate it into ZBrush and not release Sculptris in any form, but I personally think that’s unlikely.

They may integrate it into ZBrush but release Sculptris as a separate application - a ZBrush Lite kind of deal. This may be a cheap application, or it may even be free. If Pixologic develop Sculptris as an introduction to ZBrush, they may deploy it as a freebie in the anticipation that users wishing to go further with digital sculpting will be inclined to pick ZBrush. I don’t think it’s likely but who knows? It’s all conjecture at the moment.

If I had to plump for one I’d guess it’d be a low-cost application. But isn’t it a bit much to expect Tomas to continue spending his spare time developing for no reward except adulation from Sculptris’ fans? I can’t even begin to imagine how much work must have gone into the current app (I’m a developer myself so I have some idea - but I wouldn’t be prepared to do it!).

One thing is worth mentioning. Up to and including ZBrush 4, any existing ZBrush user has been able to upgrade to the latest version for FREE. That’s almost unique in my experience. Pixologic aren’t Adobe, and they aren’t Autodesk. Pixologic are the Sculptris users’ best bet in the commercial world in my opinion.

I think maybe not assuming the worst is the best thing. The original application wasn’t going to be developed further… now it looks like it is. A positive thing surely?
