Does anyone know if the 3D connexion input device will work with ZB, it’s not on the list of apps but, if anyone has tried I’d be grateful for feedback…
Nope, doesn’t work, I have a SpacePilot and ZB2.5 & ZB3…I’ve been pestering both 3dConnexion and Pixologic to support it, but their responses have been less than enthusiastic…kinda sad since it would be a great combo.
I agree this little device & a tablet would be a dream to use in ZB…
nope…
but next to working normal map export , zapplink, multidisplacement 3 in zbrush 3 it’s very high on my wish list.
But pixologic said it’s not their priority… so don’t expect them to write support for it in the next 10 years, and 3d connexion points to pixologic when you want them to support zbrush in their driver.
the problem is… there is no SDK for zbrush, so you’re also not able to write a driver yourselve if you’re up to it…
sucks eh… I use my spacetraveler always together with my mouse in cinema and maya… so nice… so much better for my wrist…
and above all… so natural to work this way… you manipulate your model with your left hand and model and sculpt with your right…
…but… a well… sweet dreams…
One thing that might be an issue, is that mouseclicks seem to conflict with the spacepilot’s rotation…that is, when you’re rotating around, if you use a mouse button (or tablet press) it interrupts the rotation. If drivers came out today for Zbrush, that alone would be a huge problem, the “dream” would be sculpting around a model, whiile you have the ability to rotate and zoom.
Someday…someday
I hear ya both, damn shame…
Yep
i would also love to have support! ijust bought my 3d connexion for 2oo euro and i would love to use it not just for maya! how come pixologic sees no benefit in it? i have just used it once and i realized right away that its totally different and way better , to be able to rotate independently from the pen in ur hand while modeling, it feels like true freedom
and not just in maya in zbrush it would be the same! can u still manually customize the 3dconnexion to use with zbrush?
how about starting a list with all of us who would love support for it give their signatures, maybe if we have a few thousand signatures interest would be greateer??
i hope it wont be a dream all my life but a reality some day
Just joining the crowd, I would also love to be able to use my 3dconnexion device in ZBrush
I had one myself a long time ago and found it difficult to have one hand on it and the other hand with my pen tablet (I have most of the time my Intuos A5 on my knees). Also, I use the pen tablet buttons for the modifiers keys and having one hand on the controler make my job harder. By the way, my 3D mouse didn’t have any button, just the navigation, I think it’s different with a more advanced 3D Connection controler
But the navigation feeling is realy great, nothing to say about that!
My space navigator is the best thing in my art life since the tablet, it makes working in 3d easily 100 times more natural. If the guys programing these apps could understand that these devices are the absolute future of this medium they would jump on board. But maybe they don’t understand because they arn’t artists. That’s just a guess, I really wouldn’t know. But it would make sense.
If Mudbox decided to support a 3d navigator tomorrow, I would say good bye to Zbrush happily, and find other ways to do things mud doesn’t. For instance Body Paint also supports the device.
It is really strange how a device that makes 3d navigation, zooming, panning and overall movement PLUS programable hot keys isn’t priority for some of these packages. ZBrush, Silo, Mudbox, Modo, etc would benefit SO MUCH from this tool alone.
One of the most difficult things to learn how to do intially is basic navigation in any 3d program. When my teacher showed us his space traveller like 2 years ago, I bought one the next day. The Space Navigator cost me $60 and it is simply an invaluable tool!! Especially in Zbrush with some of its wonky commands; ie hold alt, left click and hold, let go of alt, move cursor up and down to zoom?!?! How about I just push down or pull up on my navigator?
I love Zbrush and will continue to get better with it becuase it is an amazing program, but seriously it couldn’t take more than a few weeks for someone to get something done about this!
/rant (to end rant, hold alt, middle mouse click and hold, right click twice, make a counter clockwise circle and release alt.)
Count me in as another space navigator users that would LOVE to be able to use it in zbrush.
I can’t imagine not having it available in photoshop any more!
Just got an email back from Connexion about this, and they HAVE contacted Pixologic, and that’s where the holdup is at.
Aurrick, I know you’ll probably read this… any hope you can pass on space navigator support requests to the developement team?
I just wanted to add my vote for support. I love my spacenavigator.
there was a topic about this many many moons ago. I also started a thread at 3d connection back then.
The answer month ago was the same… they spoke with each other… but none of them really care to do support “yet” because they have “higher” priorities.
I don’t understand why there still isn’t any sopport for it… but then again… I don’t understand a lot… maybe I’m justing thinking differently…
they’ve been glued to their keyboard for so long and never tried one yet… how hard can it be to write basic support for it… come on people! or just release an sdk or something for zbrush so someone can write it for you.
I would be very happy to hear that it’s just really hard to implement in zbrush… so I can let the subject rest… but there never was a clear answer other than… not enough people using these things and other priorities blah blah…
3D Connexion said that Zbrush needs to add it’s sdk code into zbrush itself. I’m guessing Pixologic has all thier developers working full steam on the Mac version, and we won’t see any 3.1 PC updates or enhancements until the Mac version gets released.
Still, it WOULD be nice to hear that they do have it on their own Pixologic wishlist…
ditto on ‘want this now’
omg please please please add support for this device! I was on my way to order a SpaceNavigator when I looked through the supported applications-list(a long list) and did not find zbrush in that list… so sad. I want it now…!
If you haven’t yet, try the space navigator support for photoshop… I’m amazed I never looked at it for a year here, and it makes using photoshop SO much easier!
Originally I got it for using with poser, which also is quite nifty.
Connexion sounded more then willing to help Pixologic with space navigator support… I just wish the stupid Mac version of ZB3 would get released so the Pixologic guys could return back to PC developement, and add feature enhancements like support for this.
heck, even a “it’s coming sometime guys” reply would be a welcome surprise, even if it took a few months to add.
