Zspheres and short body parts

Hello there,

I’m a newbie with Zbrush, so please be patient.
(I posted the same question yesterday, but the thread got lost somehow)

Here is my problem:
I want to create a fat, short-legged toon dragon.
I did the setup of the Zspheres, and it looks ok to me. But in the preview the sphere of the belly and the spheres for the legs sort of flow together and overlap. Probably because the legs are too short. But I don’t want to make them longer. Is there a way to fix these overlapping areas?

Your ZSphere figure simply has too many children coming off the parent.

I recommend that you watch the ZSpheres tutorials in the ZClassroom. You will also find this thread helpful: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=21407

I assembled a similar Zspere model to show the method I am currently using to achieve the smooth results that I think you want.

First, I draw the branching Zspheres smaller so they don’t overlapand then move the limbs so they are longer.

Adaptive skin settings:
Intersection Resolution:1
Membrane Curvature:0
Minimal Skin to Child is on
Minimal skin to parent is off

In this picture, I have shown a level 1 and 8 preview to see if the results were smooth and they are.

Next, expand the deformation menu under tools and increase the “Spherize” slider with X,Y,andZ on.( In the Pic, I expanded this to 85)

In zsphere mode, there is also an expand option that I find helpful, but usually when I’m ready to tinker around with the shape of the model, I make the adaptive skin at level 2 and then make it a polymesh 3d so I can then veiw the small preview while making the deformation.

I hope this Helps…Fatdragonexamplet.jpg

Hm - ah - oh - WOW!

Yes, that looks more like what I wanted to do g
But it seems I’ve got to learn even more than I thought. I don’t know anything (yet) about adaptive skin settings and the spherize tool.
Is there a special tutorial around that covers this or will I get there just by working systematically through all the other tuts?

Anyway, thanks a lot. Now I know what I have to look for in the manual

Glad this helps…

I know there are various tutorials and threads on the Questions & Troubleshooting forum that cover these and they are very helpfull. I Unfortunatey tend to forget alot of what I see in tutorials unless I go through the process several times.

If you’re not under any time deadline, I would just tinker around with the settings first to see how they react to your model. If not, I often have luck searching threads on this forum for specific answers.

Just so I don’t lead you in any wrong direcion, I am drawing just as a hobby and have been using Zbrush for around one year and am enjoying learning different ways to create stuff in Zbrush…

The main point I felt inclined to share(mainly because I just learned the process myself), is to use utilize the deformation menu. Instead of trying to draw A “proportionally correct” Zsphere model, I draw the limbs I need and If I need to change the size to achieve a smooth preview (knowing that I will later go back after I have made the adaptive skn and fix the shape.)
