The Sentinel

Based on the artwork from Shiantu

This is my second collaboration with Shiantu. I really like his paintings.
I was very attracted to the idea o this immortal character waiting endlessly, guarding a higher being, or an entrance to a realm. I had a similar feeling with some characters from Dark Souls.

About the process, I first figure out each individual element that forms the character.
In this case it was the hands, the shoulders, the helmet, the sword, the chain mail arms, the belts and the fabric.

Then I create a basic shape of the silhouette of the character. Just to have something similar to the general shape.
For some elements, I work on them as a separate Ztool until I have them on a near final level.
I do this because it helps me to focus better on the specific elements I’m working on at the moment. And also, the ztool is much lighter.

Eventually I assemble everything together, adjust proportions and placements with transpose master. This is also were I finish polishing everything.
