speed sculpt - alien bust

hey all,
been a while since i’ve posted anything up here…
did this fella over two nights, total time about 3 1/2 hours from a sphere in ZBrush. really love layers! great tool to have when you’re trying out some skin flows! may color him and retopologise for external render soon.

hope you like!

Really good. You’re going to texture it right? How many polys?

Superb wrinkles and skinpores. Nice materials as well. I like the specularity.

You made this from Zsheres?

Stunning work!! 3.5 hours? Wow!

I’m the new guy on the block having just purchased v2 for the Mac Friday afternoon (I don’t want to run an emulator, and thought I’d just learn on v2 until v3 for Mac is released). Unfortunately, I didn’t know I had to email in for a license, and they only do that on business days, so guess I’ll have to wait until Monday or Tuesday before I can get started. Bummer, huh??

Anyway, it’s all the incredible, fabulous work like this one that I’ve seen hereabouts that made me wanted to get involved, and I’m no artist, believe me!

Nothing like a good alien to brighten up my Saturday! Can’t wait to see what this critter looks like next! Congrats!!

this is just great, i love the skin texture. Hope u dont mind im saving this image for inspiration.

how many subdivision levels?

very cool for 3 hours !..i like the skin !

cool character, nice work.

WoW…
piz - thank you!
Seb - hey man, thanks for the comment, and for the info a little while back… your work is inspiring!
X-treme - cheers mate!
alexleia - thanks man! again, your work is inspiring, glad you like!
guilemo - thank you! i made this from the standard sphere in ZBrush… i hope to get time to texture him soon!
Morbius - cheers mate! all the best in the training in ZB 2 all i can say is both packages i’ve been extremely impressed with, and you’re bound to learn heaps, and enjoy the addiction that is ZBrushing!
MikePoretti - no worries bruv… glad i could inspire
skull-monster - thanks mate! love your work!
GabeM - thanks!

stoked everyone likes this character… really was just roughing out the sphere, and came out with this guy. good exercises for anyone learning how to sculpt digitally. i did push the limit of the sphere pretty high on this one…

the poly count it 2 million… material is green clay matcap… i will try get around to some color while its still the weekend! i tried to record the sculpt in ZB, but couldn’t get it to record for a long period of time? anyone help me there??

here’s some different angles

here’s a color pass… any comments welcome!

pretty stoked with how its going, so think i will retopologise for a maya render!

i used sebcesoir’s skin material and a toy plastic render for a little bit of specular.

if anyone could please tell me how to extend the time period of a recording in ZB? tried to recored the texturing but only a few mins came out :frowning:

hope you like the render

Now this is an alien with an attitude.
It’s cool.

Was it Poly-Painted or did you use a bitmap texture for this one?

Fantastic baker17!

I like it alot aswel. I love busts with their heads turned. I was wondering though. At what point during sculpting did you brake the symmetry? Because i think that really makes him look “alive”. The skewed nose and assymetrical lip for example. Were those changes you made near the end of the sculpting?

PS
Texture is looking really nice too. I see no reason why you shouldnt finish him of with a final render outside of Z. He’s quality material as far as im considered

Very nice texture. Im really looking forward to see the final render

I like the character and the texturing looks pretty good. I think there’s something a little plastic looking about the texture though. Maybe the lighting, specularity? I’m not sure… My 2 cents =)

I think it’s beautiful! Please keep in mind I’m totally new to all this, so forgive my ignorance. I’ll look up ‘retopologize’, whatever the heck that is, but how is a ‘Maya’ render different from a render in ZBrush?

And more importantly, how does anyone actually afford Maya?? (kidding)

I’m a bit familiar with animation, and wondering if you create these sculptures for use in animation, and how difficult is it to rig for software like Maya?

Thanks! Keep up the great work! Very inspiring!

Can’t wait to get my software license!! Argh!!

great!
