Please note Jimmy just updated the script to automatically turn OFF featured displacement. this is important so if you downloaded this before tuesday morning re-download it.

This looks like an excellent utility!

Okay, the script seems to run just fine until it has to create the approximations, then gives me an error that it can not find the proc ā€˜miApproxEditorCreate’, any idea what I have to do to get it to work the rest of the way?

ya i think theres some kind of error on maya 6.0 jimmy wrote this on 5 so were gonna look into it and update this ASAP since we have alot of people interested.

If you really want to help us out try it out on 5 just to see if it works, if it does then we know its a 6 problem if not then we know its something else. Here it works perfectly on 5

just to let you know, i had that same problem ā€œmiapproxeditorcreateā€ on maya 6 but not maya 5, this isnt the first time i’ve seen that while using 6, so i think its something with the program itself.

I tried various times to make a good displacemet, but findings are not so positive… I look for a ā€œdiplacemet settingā€ for XSI…I’ m not an expert, I’m learnig to use ā€œ3D Worldā€ ! It’s only 9 mouth that I landed to this world, but I want to learn, and hurriedly !!!

I’ll study for a good setting…

Remember that this plugin is not gonna give you the perfect settings in terms of your displacement value, you need to adjust that via the alpha gain . all this does is simplify the repetitive process while giving you presets. the alpha gain setting vary from model to model so having prests on that would be close to impossible

I might be stupid but I sourced it, execute it, place it in a shelf and nothing happendes in maya5??!!

Had that happen as well in 6. Try running from the command line zatt; <return/enter>.

Hey, thanks for this tool; it’s helped a lot.

Heres what i did:
Made it a RGB tiff in photoshop.
Import obj into Maya.
run script.
Change Repeat UV the V to -1.00 under the 2d placement node of the file. Or flip it in photoshop.
Change renderer to mental ray
Render!
PS: I forgot to change the alpha, but it came out okay.

Oh yea, Maya 6 script.

I feel like a total nubi , I ran the script on both maya 5.01 and maya 6.0 and nothing happend
I made sure i have obect slected before i run it but still nothing …
I can see the script in the script editor going through but i dont get anything after that
any ideas

put the script in your C:…maya\6.0\scripts directory and in Maya type ` to get to the command prompt, then just type in the name of the script. ā€˜zatt6’ for example.
