How to make clothes coats etc

Hello,

I have searched the zbrushcentral zbrush wiki but i have found no tutorial on how to make clothes in zbrush. There are one or two examples but not sufficent. It would be great if we make a thread with all about cloth making in zbrush.
For example i am not able to figure out how to make clothing of a character for example a coat similar to the coat NEO is wearing in the movie matrix. I mean i want a clothe to appear to be WRAPPED to the anotomy of the character.

Hey i just noted i joined in may 2006 not in may 2005

Ideally, clothes are something you would want to first model out in a traditional 3d modeler, just for sake of control. You can however do it soley in Zbrush. May I ask what the model is intended for? Still images, animation, etc? What type of clothing are trying to make?

Here are a couple of links to get you started: link and here.

Options such as hiding polys and making a polymesh of what is left work quite well. Depends on the clothing of course, here is a couple of ideas…

If you wish to keep the body and the clothes sepearte, it’s fairly easy to see how you could do that with these samples. If not, feel free to ask.

One way would be to take your unclothed model, paint a mask where you want a piece of clothing, invert the mask, modify with inflate, then make a difference mesh. That way, the amount of inflate you use controls thickness, and the clothing will hug your model perfectly.

Not my idea… I read this somewhere, but I cant find it now to link to it.

How would you go about making a hood in zbrush like what the assassins creed character has?

Clothing is not that hard, here are some examples. Those that want to utilize the traditional poly approach can, of course the world moves on.

Simple example:

Slightly more elaborate idea:

A little closer to what you might want:

So man ways. With the new retopo tools, you cold just add a few shapes to a character and define the clothes as you retopo over everything. It’s all a matter or perspective and creativity.

I recall seeing a tutorial for creating clothes in Zbrush a while back, but I was just starting the program and didn’t know anything yet, but it was really easy! But I don’t remember where I saw the tutorial. I remember they just created an extra “layer” on the model and started fine-tuning the clothes. I’ll keep looking for it =)

Ok, I’m not sure this was the exact tutorial I saw before, but it’s a great one. Here is the youtube link, and there is a part 2 also, covering the topology stuff.
