After updating to Zbrush 2020.1.3 my cursor crosshair seems to be drawing from different image files or corrupted versions of the proper image files. My only screen capture utility does not use a hot key so I’m unsure how to show you the problem. My main difficulty is that when navigating the UI, I’m unable to easily tell where the center of the cursor is and end up clicking the function above or below the intended button.
Figured out how to screenshot the cursors - upgraded to 1.4 but problem is unchanged:
Hello @CWR63
Give this a try, and see if it is applicable to your issue:
Otherwise, you will need to contact Support.
I couldn’t get that solution to effect the problem, possibly because I’m still using Windows 7 Pro, which doesn’t have the same settings tree as 10. I’m also using Shane Olsen’s 3D Character Workshop interface (been using it since 4R7 and without it I can no longer navigate standard Zbrush at any workable pace) but the problem doesn’t go away when I cycle through the different UIs, so I’m thinking that’s not the cause. That doesn’t rule it out though.
…I thought this was the Zbrush Help & Support forum?
This is the help section of the ZBrushCentral community forum, where other users like yourself answer questions as best as they are able about ZBrush usage. It is not a replacement for Pixologic Support, which you must contact for technical issues with your registered copy of the program.
Re: OS. Windows 7 support has ended. It’s your call, but the longer you use an obsolete and unsupported OS, the more issues like this you will experience. You’ll have to decide when the security vulnerabilities and increasing frequency of glitches and odd behavior outweigh whatever reasons you have for not updating your OS.
It may not seem like it, but I’ve been doing 3d since before Windows was an OS, so I’ve been through this a number of times - not to be snippy about it, but my reasons are not frivolous (nor will I bore you with them) - but I agree with you that I will eventually have no choice but to change to Windows 10 . I hesitate to refer to this as an upgrade, although up until XP it still largely felt like one…
Thanks for your time!
Hi, CWR63,
I am having the same issue. To me it happened at the after fixing my resolution. So, originally Zbrush installs and it seems really blurry, but I fix the resolution by going into the properties for Zbrush in Windows and adjusting the high DPI settings under compatibility, essentially changing the scaling behavior to be handled by the Application rather than the system.
When I have the small resolution the, the cursor is fine, but when I switch to the resolution native to my monitor (with the fix above), the cursor breaks, just like yours.
I was wondering if they were able to find a solution for your issue at Pixologic support.
Cheers,
Alejandro
Welcome alejandro_alonzo - I hadn’t yet submitted this to support, I just assumed it had to do with remaining in Windows 7 and decided to live with it. I’ve dual 4K monitors and have noticed that when ZB starts up recently, it blanks the monitor opposite to white, and I have to run the cursor around it and grab open Explorer windows and scrub them around in order to see the icons and wallpaper on that monitor. I thought it was punishment for not switching to W10. It’s a fairly high spec machine, but it is 4 years old after all…
I will check it with the setting you have mentioned before proceeding to support.
Hey, CWR63,
I actually found a solution. I am currently on a ticket with Pixologic support team. I also have dual 4K monitors. This seems like a resolution problem. I fixed mine by switching the scaling form 150% to 100%. Now the cursor is back to normal.
It’s a bit annoying because now everything is super tiny, but, I think I can manually set the icons and letters and all of that. However, I asked the Pixologic support team if they can actually find a workaround for this. I think it’s just windows is scaling the pointer in Zbrush… or something and not listening to the DPI settings? I am not very tech savy, but that’s my best guess.
Anyways, I’ll keep you posted on what pixologic says. Hopefully this works for you.
Update
Actually, I found that at 125% scaling the issue doesn’t occur for me. So, that’s a happy medium for me.
I’m confused as to where I adjust my scaling; in a Zbrush menu, in my graphics card settings, or in windows display (which I now recall is my graphics card setting)? The only place I remember adjusting something like that is my internet browser…
Okay, I fixed it by adjusting to 125% as you suggested after watching the #askzbrush video about this very problem - I thank you most sincerely for saving my sanity from this minute but incremental erosion!
Now I just have to remember where all my desktop icons were previously…
