I’m up 4 it.

While we can say we’d rather see Pixologic spend money on program development, they are best to spend money on any avenue that would provide return money – is spending money on a ZBC gallery a way for Pixologic to make more money?
The more money they make – the more they will spend on R&D. We would get a much more developed creative tool and they would become rich – or so I hope!
Why would they make money? Would everyone agree that some (maybe many) people own Zbrush because of what they saw, heard and responses they received from ZBC. How many people would have tried the demo then walked away from a purchase because they couldn’t find the true powers of Zbrush without the help provided here. How many times have the basic questions been asked – and answered – here on ZBC.
A well designed gallery here on ZBC would add to the power of ZBC – more people will be influenced to purchase. If I was Pixologic I would never reference Renderosity because it is a place where other creative tools are advertised. The personal web site could be listed in our profiles – but many people don’t have a website. A gallery already exists @ Pixologic.com but many of the individual galleries – those individuals who have their own pages – do not participate on ZBC. The beauty of a gallery here is that a potential buyer could browse a large collection of images representing a myriad of styles then walk in here and go, “Hey Zoid, how did you ever get such sensual dunes in your image?” – and Zoid would answer ;). You can’t do this on the corporate site.
I vote yes because it makes good business sense!

That’s a great point, Impending. Quality work does indeed spark an interest in the program. Just as you pointed out, it was the amazing artwork that I was seeing turned out by a number of people that made me decide to buy ZBrush. But I never even heard of ZBrush Central until after purchasing the program.
I was regularly visiting Renderosity and viewing the work of everyone there. The programs all had problems that kept me from buying. Poser people almost invariably looked so “plastic.” Bryce created great landscapes, but always without that spark of life that made them truly believable. Other programs had one or two true masters who always turned out great work, but the remaining crowd was strictly so-so. Then along came ZBrush like a firestorm. The work of beginners was quantum leaps ahead of that of novices in other programs, and the work of the masters… WOW! It readily put all the other programs to shame. I knew in short order that I had to get this program.
I really don’t know if my experience was similar to other users. But I can safely say from both personal experience and the years that I’ve spent in sales that advertising one’s product alongside that of the competition is only a bad thing if your product is inferior. Quality stands out, even in a crowd, and ZBrush has that kind of quality in spades. It has absolutely nothing to fear from being showcased alongside the other programs.
Well, It generated some disscussion anyway which is what you were saying ZBC is all about.
I don`t like having to spend time finding images on the net (renderosity or wherever). I like to draw and I like to do it with ZBrush. When I’m a little dry on the old inspiration I want to be able to look at the work of others quickly and if possible with thumbnails.
If it was to impact on the r&d at pixologic I would say do not do it but then again it could generate sales as suggested.
I only picked up the demo of ZBrush because I wanted to learn to create images like Sonny and Pix. It was their posts at the ZAcademy that got me hooked and without access to their work I wouldn’t have continued with the program. I want to be able to reach their images whenever I feel the need and I want new users to be able to do the same.
Can we have more comment from the Pixologic team on this one?

It seems the biggest fear here is the idea that a ZBC gallery will somehow take away from precious development time. Even a simple system would do I would think, a pagenated (sp?) list of user images on the pixologic server and searchable by login name. Not everyone has a website or posts to Renderosity and since April opening day every single image that has ever been posted here continues on it’s neverending march into the obscurity of the back pages.
Believe it or not I enjoy looking at people’s work, it would be really nice if it could be easily accessable
Aye
AYE
I’m with impending, a very smart answer and actualy true!
So i’m for Aye!
I would like to see a ZBC gallery for all users . The really great images that are in the top row are very inspiring but also a bit daunting … it would be nice to see what less experienced users are achieving and perhaps more would post their efforts if there was a gallery. I don’t particularly like the images-in-threads system when I just want to image browse. A site/software specific gallery with thumbnails is more user friendly imo.
I’m gona have to say Nay also… simply becasue there is alot of places to run a portfolio that being said. I’d love the ability to see more thumbnails then the top few last submitted. the advantage of a forum is that anyone can get a chance to be discovered equally. often when you have a name… and u get alot of comments… and all that… and ppl easly link to just you… u’ll only go see the ppl u know… I used to be a DA admin I’ve seen it all before. one thing I’d like to see tho also is tagging
This thread was last posted in before ZBC created the UserGallery feature.
If you go to any post by any user, you will see a UserGallery link at the top of the post, toward the right. Click that link to be taken to a series of screens with thumbnails of all images uploaded by that member, and links to the threads where the images appeared.
Aye.
I just don’t see the point in asking Pixolator to reinvent a perfectly functional wheel.
You guys do realise this thread is from 2001 don’t you? :o
Wayne…
A lot of people still don’t read the posts to find out what they’re replying to.
Well the present User Gallery still isnt sufficient. I think there still needs to be a lower level Gallery we can post Completed works to. As it is, the way the present system is set up, Anything you post winds up in the Gallery Unless its thumnailed and as you post the newer ones Crowd out the Older ones. Back in 01 a few of us realized this and what held true Yesterday still applies to today. I vote AYE! and
's up all the way
By the way dont be fooled by my join date here. I was lurking the forum beginning about the time I became one of the founding Moderators of Renderosity. I know what I am talking about
@Pride
Aahh, I’m so sorry. I placed my reply in the wrong thread because I forgot to read it.
Back to work now (my car has a flat tyre and it needs to be repaired).
I would love it.
you can exhibit your work in a real gallery!
A little bit of info for u
An Introduction to the Standby…Art Gallery
The Standby…Art Gallery aims to provide an innovative forum for digital and traditional art, presenting work by largely unseen artists or by established artists whose work has been rarely or never been exhibited.
The audience for exhibitions of digital art has increased widely during the last Five years as general awareness and interest in digital media has developed in Britain.
Many artists showing at The Standby…Art Gallery are unknown when first exhibited, not only to the general public but also to the commercial art world. Our intention is that many of these artists are subsequently offered shows by galleries and museums internationally. In this effect, the gallery also operates as a springboard for young artists to launch their careers
What makes us different from every other gallery
Alongside the display of traditional artwork, our use of high definition monitors, allow our exhibition content to rotate constantly, allowing a previously unimaginable variety and volume of work to be displayed.
Using digital technology allows us to display art in entirely new and exciting ways, for example:
Photography and art work can be displayed seconds after being taken or created.
Gallery visitors can watch artworks take form as the painter works from anywhere in the world. The viewer can stand for the first time, in front of the “canvas” as the work is created.
3D digital sculptures that have never existed before in the real world will be built and displayed in our gallery.
What impact will we have on our community?
We will bring people living in the city closer to art and design and demonstrate the cultural and technological evolution in the area.
We will contribute to the regeneration of Sunniside as an up and coming cultural and creative area of Sunderland.
