Ztool not a polymesh?

Sorry for the unclear title…

Well this is the situation:

I have made a modell with the demo head as a start and have begun to detail it
now at subdivision 6. No I realize that I can’t do zproject or working with layers for example.
My guess is that I forgot to make it a polymesh at the lowest subdiv and THEN start to sculpt, I didn’t realize that you needed to do that to the demo head.

Do I need to start all over or can I do somesthing about it?
I tried to make a polymesh at my highest subdiv and then reconstruct but that didn’t work.

Does the same rules apply to adaptive skin as a ztool? Do I need to make a polymesh first and the sculpt?

As you see I haven’t fully grasp the workflow in zbrush when it comes to ztools, polymesh and adaptive skin.
Hope someone can make it a little bit more clear for me.

The Demo Head works with layers and projection for me. If these are not working, its probably due to a usage error or corruption problem with the tool. Remember, layers are only accessible at the subdivision level they were created at.

The only thing the “make polymesh 3d” button is really used for is for the parametric primitives in Zbrush, like the ring, capsule, cube, etc. Thats because these are procedurally generated until you convert them…you can tell by looking at the geometry palette for one of these…the options will be different until you convert them, and you can’t sculpt on them.

To troubleshoot your specifc problems, I would need to know more about what you are doing, and what you are trying to do.

Thank’s Scott I knew I could count on you;)
This is really wierd, I updated to R2 yesterday and it’s not working there either.
The layers panel are greyed out on my model.
When I convert to a polymesh the layers and zproject works fine…

The layer slots will be greyed out until you create one with the “New” button.

Also, you can only have one active layer at a time. If you go to a different SuBD level with the layer on the previous level still active, the menu will be greyed out and you cant create or access layers. Go back to the previous subD level, and click on the layer slot (not the eyeball, unless you want to hide it) to deactivate it.

With greyed out I meant everything, including the “new” button.
When I load my modell I can’t acces the layer buttons on any level.

I have started all over again, it’s a pain but more practice for me:)

Thank’s again Scott!
