Zspheres first attempt and advice

Hi guys

Just been trying out these Zsphere’s and I wanted to get your comments and advice on what I have so far.

I think the proportions are just about right, and my ultimate aim would be to get this animated, which is where I want your advice.

How do I proceed with the hands and feet? I do intend to redo the topology when the zsphere stage is complete after I have moved some verts around so whats the best method?

Thanks guys

See this great tutorial by Francois Rimasson : http://www.zbrush.info/wiki/index.php/The_Making_of_"Birth"_by_Francois_Rimasson_Featuring:_Transpose%2C_ZSpheres%2C_SubTools%2C_and_Mesh_Extraction

RecoilUk- Check these out… good info for both ZB2 and ZB3 fundamentals with zspheres and other things. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=3471&highlight=practical+guide

Here’s Jason Belec’s eternal zsphere thread… good read but prepare to do it in intervals is a long read. Well worth it thoughhttp://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=21407&page=1&pp=15

Here Jason helped give me a condense info on some stuff in the eternal zsphere thread as well as the other fine contributors.

Be sure to use XYZadjust script… very handy and works for things like this…

Have fun! :+1: :+1:

Hi guys

Thanks very much for your help, I have read all the info, but beyond making a rough body I cant get the hang of these Zspheres at all, I can sort of do it for hands etc now that I have the XYZ Script, but to get the topology spot on is a nightmare.

So in the end I just did a rough body shape using Zspheres then exported the body into Hexagon for some rework and to add the hands.

Let me know what you think of the proportions/ topology etc.

Thx

what…not using zbrush’s topology tools…tsk tsk

anyways…this thread is imho THE must read about zspheres…then Jason’s fantastic thread…because if ya don’t know how to multiply…algebra won’t make much sense.

This thread is a must read for learning all about how to re-topo in z3…it’s fun to read as we get to see the bumps in the road others before us ran into and how creative solutions were found…just like in Jasons thread about zspheres…lucky for us…now our road is mostly smooooth sailin!

enjoy the ride!

hello! i love the concept of Zspheres but the tutorial for ZB2 seems to be no help at all, as everything looks different to me in ZB3.

ALL i can do is create a new zsphere, i can’t move them, pull them away from each other, or anything else. I have tried every button and keystroke combination and can’t find a tutorial that has such basic things as how to add another zsphere with multiple child spheres between.

ZB3 seems totally different than ZB2 in this regard. I would simply like to build a skeleton of something using zspheres, but i can only create each sphere on the surface of another sphere, i can’t figure out how to stretch the distance between them to make an arm for example. thanks!

Hi

Draw your first zsphere, press T or click on EDIT along the top of the screen, you are now in edit mode and can add zspheres to your parent zsphere.

If you want to move, scale or rotate your child zspheres click on the relevant button on the top next to the edit button.

The Move, Scale and Rotate buttons on the right are for moving the canvas point of view and affect the whole model.

If you want symetry, click on transform along the very top, find the sym panel and click on X.

Hope that helps.

thanks! some of what you said is actually extremely helpful lol… i didn’t realize the stuff on the right was camera only.

everyone says create a sphere (i assume by clicking the zsphere icon in the top right corner) then press T for edit, but i think in ZB3 it STARTS in edit mode doesn’t it?

EDIT is highlighted orange in the top left as is DRAW when i make any sort of new shape. if i press T the EDIT button turns from orange to gray, which i think means it’s off doesn it?

either way this is very helpful!! now if i could just figure out how to skin the spheres… i can do unified skin, but pressing adaptive skin does nothing. and i can’t figure out how to increase the resolution of unified skin, it is VERY low poly and not helpful to me at all.

thanks!
