Zsphere/Modeling Humanoid 1st attempt any help appreciated!

Hello folks,

As always would like to thank everyone that has helped me on this thread, in the zbrushcentral forum, zclassroom, and all zbrush tutorials/videos that are available. I’m still very new and raw to zbrush and 3D in general. However with all of the helpful knowledgable people out there its making my slow progress faster than it would ever be on my own. Bought the Detailing Characters: Zbrush Alpha Library by Aaron Sims which has been great, definitely recommend it. Also used antropus clay shader and lights, adjusting the clay shaders settings to try to get something I’m happy with as a base skin tone. Adding some alphas from the Aaron Sims dvd mentioned above as well as some of Antropus’s too, many thanks for the tools! Still got a ton of work to learn and do yet but here is some wip pics anyway. Big thanks to Zclassroom vids & the teachers!

This guy is really, really in bad shape! Looking good. You seem to be learning faster and faster.

Hey Jason,

Your vote of encouragement means a ton considering your experience and how much you try to help this forum out. Its why this forum rocks… very inspirational and helpful folks here.
Your Eternal zsphere thread and some of the tidbits you supplied in this thread sure helped a ton. As for my humanoid regarding its looks well… just remember beauty is only skin deep and as always it makes up for it with its GREAT personality  .

I’m moving along due to all the help this forum provides, vid tutorials that kind folks provide, etc!! That said, it feels like its going soo slow… since I have to read/watch/learn a ton of info before I move on to attempt any activity at a stage of this models development. Especially since I’m just doing this in my spare time. Right now at this texture/paint stage… lots of different methods to get the job done, gotta find things I like and then use them in my own way to get what I like on the model. Usually leaves me wanting to ask questions and since i’m learning with just online info and dvds I pick up no one here to respond to my second guessing questions. Thats when I just eventually bite the bullet and give it my best. Could post all my questions here but don’t think the server has enough room for my ramblings  .

Now a days, beauty is for sale at very reasonable prices. Pretty soon we’ll all be judged on personality, that should cause quite a bit of distress!

Trust me when I say this, and I have said it often, repeat, repeat again, you will learn something valuable each time. You wil go faster, you will know what works and what won’t and then you will be down to the creative side of things. Free from wondering how to bend the wire, how long before the clay dries, or even if the proportions are correct.

Jason,

Yeah… those are the same words my Highschool Art Prof. Farell Holmes used to say to us students way back in the day. Along with always be willing to start over and over his favorite was to Simplify, Simplify, SIMPLIFY!! He liked to stress the overall contour shape and use of negative space more than detail. He was a great teacher.

Just thought i’d post a couple images of some of the texturing i’ve been working on and off for this model. Two things caused me some grief for the first while there. First I didn’t map the model before I textured it… yes i’m a rookie at 3D modeling. After I did the GUVtiles for the model and made the 4096X4096 texture and started texturing I ran into another bump. I am working with the adaptive skin in preview mode still so every time I loaded the model the texture wasn’t wrapped on the model as it had been. Couldn’t figure that out for a while and looked up info on it but nothing said anything that I could find. After a bit I figured that the reason was that EVERY time I loaded the zsphere tool, went into preview mode under adaptive I had to lower the model to sub division 1 and do the GUVtiles map again. So as long as I do that everytime I get ready to texture i’m good. Been at it off and on and learning how to make alphas etc., nearly done finally but not quite. Figure i’d share couple of shots of the texturing i’ve done though still bit more to do and make it eyes to put into its face.

My hope is that once I finally finish I can do this forum proud considering the help I receive here and the numerously talented artists that kindly display there work here.
