zsphere ->adaptive mesh ->subdividing mesh problem

Hello I posted a question and I think maybe that the title was not good so it got no responses i have read many pages here trying to locate the problem and. I am hoping it is that i am not reading a small detail as I go through the tutorial or something. here are my steps i am doing a head turtorial in the Zbrush 2 practical guide. page 264 if you have it.

  1. create face in zspheres by adding zspheres to make eyes ears nose and mouth.
  2. activate mesh preview. change ires to 1. mesh now resembles face.
  3. make adaptive skin. undo zsphere place new tool named zsphere copy. (this i believe is supposed to be only a mesh not a zsphere. so that you can completely edit it. However in mine it still shows as a zsphere. i can add and preview it as a normal zsphere model. I have no way of dividing it to make more polygons or anything I can change the Ires to add polies but for the sake of the tutorial i want to do it just as described by going into. tool ->geometry divide. so that i can keep editing as the tutorial explains in the book.

Can anyone help me to see what I am doing wrong.

After making your adaptive skin, exit Edit mode. In the Tool palette select the new tool (which will probably be called skin_ZSphere). That model will have the full Geometry functions available.

From your previous post it sounds like you’re pressing the Tool>Clone button. What you need to press is either Tool>MakePolymesh3D (which will name the new model PM3D_ZSphere) or Tool>Adaptive Skin>Make Adaptive Skin

Thanks for your help in me solving the problem. I have applied the changes and I am very pleased with the result I will be adding a WIP so that I can get further critiques of my work.

Another real quick question is this: In the same tutorial on part 5 the head page 271 it says something about selecting the S1 channel and press Copy SH were is the S! Channel located. I cant seem to find it anywere.

The S1 channel would be a material channel. Go to the materials menu and look at the material they told you to load. There will 1 to 4 slots available depending on the material. Click where it says S1 to select that channel. Then you might have to scroll down a bit to see the Copy Sh(ader) button.

Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I hate how sometimes something that is boggling your mind turns out to be something so simple. But I am glad to have this problem solved.
