Zproject painting question

I’m trying to use the Zproject brush to project the colour of the Subtool underneath/behind it. However, not only is it picking up the raw colour but it’s picking up the material shading as well (not the actual material but the shading).

What can I change so that the Zproject brush only picks up the Raw colour of the subtool?

I already tried filling the subtool with the flat colour material but as soon as I changed back to the main subtool and set it to the basic shader material, the subtool also changed its material to match.

I know I could change both materials to flat shading and then polypaint but I wish to retain basic shading so I know that the colour is transferring correctly.

Cheers,
Paul

[edit] Oops, sorry, didn’t understand your issue.

Does painting in RGB mode instead of MRGB mode not help?

No, sorry, it doesn’t help. I’m still using 3.1 for now but I don’t think that the issue is resolved in 3.5 (although I haven’t tried it yet). I understand why it happens (because of the way that Zbrush works) but I’m hoping that there is a workaround.

Well, I wasn’t able to recreate the issue you speak of, if I’m understanding you correctly. I tried in both 3.1 and 3.5. I cloned one subtool, and appended it, polpainted on one, and used Zproject to copy the painting onto the other. It went off without a hitch, and didnt capture any material shading. If there is something different you are doing, please correct me.

Look at the mesh you just zprojected over in “Flat” render mode though. If you dont see this shading there, it is not being copied in terms of color, you are seeing something else.

If you have a screenshot to post, that would probably be helpful.

I did another test and I didn’t seem to get the same problem. Maybe it was something in the scene that I forgot to do or an element I was not supposed to use (But I definitely know that I didn’t use MRGB, just normal RGB).

If I have problems again, I’ll post pics up.

Sorry for the bother.

Cheers,
Paul
