zproject not working right

Sigh…
I’m starting to give up on this… Everytime I’m moving on to the next thing
I’m stuck. This time it’s the zproject brush. It works great on a polysphere but as soon as I take one of my creations it just don’t work.
I have head that I was going to zproject a texture and at best I can get som rectangular paches with a hole inside. The UVs seem fine since I can do regular polypaint on it. Any suggestions?

This is what it looks like:

It seems to be the same problem as before…
If I turn it into a polymesh it works but now all my subdivs are gone.
So I guess that’s 6 hours of wasted sculpting time…

Just for reference, turning something into a polymesh (which again, is not something you have to do except with ZB’s parametric primitives) creates an entirely new tool…it does not actually convert your existing tool. Your existing tool should still be in the tool menu.

You know what, I may have failed you earlier. It seems to me , back in the recesses of my memory, people have noted that there is something weird about the Demo Head model(if that is what you based that sculpt on), and I cannot remember what it is. I have never worked with it, but it does seem to be performing oddly for me with this process compared to any other tool.

I think you’ll find if you try this process with any other 3d tool it goes off without a hitch. It may in fact be that you have to convert the demo head to a pm3d as a fix first, but I assure you this is the exception to the rule.

Thank you Scott.

Yes, it’s only the demohead that’s causing this it seems. Unfortunately that
was my base, I think I will throw that demo head away so I don’t make the same misstake again…
As for my project I will finnish the head as a polymesh and make my detailing on that, just to finnish it. (I have made a promise to myself to finnish as many started projects in Zbrush as I can).

I am getting the same thing using my own mesh build and uv’d in maya:cry:

Do you have a texture applied that is overwriting the polypaint? Zproject works with polypainting, independently of UVs.

If you want to put your tool up here, I’ll take a look at it.

Thanks Bingo, before I upload the tool, I just want to check make sure of the something first.

Check the other thread. There is something different, but I cant tell if its a bug yet, or we just havent figured out the new workflow. Has to do with subtools…I hadn’t tested it on a tool with subtools…Im still investigating.

Is there a way for me to send the file only to you?

Theres no need for your file now…I’ve duplicated your issue and am trying to figure it out.
