I am currently using ZBrush 4 and I am searching for ZMapper in my plug-ins. I
do not see zmapper.zsc in my ZBrush 4.0 folder anywhere. I’ve looked through
each and every folder. I also cannot find a download source to manually load it.
Maybe I am really behind the times – Is this plug-in obsolete? If not, please
tell me how I can locate it.
Amanda
ZMapper is serveral ZBrush versions obsolete at this point, which is why it is no longer available for download. It was created at a time when normal mapping was very new, allowing us to provide enhanced support for normal mapping without needing to wait for a new release of ZBrush. However, ZBrush’s features later evolved to render the plugin obsolete, and it was retired.
The normal map calculation algorithms that ZBrush now has natively are superior to what ZMapper was capable of.
There is no ZMapper for ZBrush v4. It got dropped a few years ago.
Gotcha. I was trained using the ZMapper. ZBrush 4 seems so efficient now and with so many more capabilities. I just downloaded the multimapper this morning. It seems to do the trick. It’s very quick and easy. I like it so far!
Here’s a list of reasons why it was removed, as well as the newer features that replace them:
