Zmapper Error Message

I’m trying to generate a Normal Map using Zmapper. My model is an all quad-character, it’s UV’s have been layed out externally and imported to the model’s lowest level. I’m setting the open configuration to Maya_TangentSpaceNode_BestQuality

I’m getting an error message upon hitting Creat Normal Map that reads -

Plugin Note: memory could not be allocated… “SubdividFaces”

What can I do differently to not incur this error message?

What are your system specs? What are your Preferences>Mem settings? How many polys does the model have at its highest level?

Thank you for the appropriate specs. - settings questions for me to be noting and the resource links.

I’ll use this information for future inquires.

My system’s specs are;

Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4 MHZ Go Stepping, water cooled to be overclocked to 3.2 MHZ
EVGA 8800 GTS 640 MB 500 MHZ, water cooled to be overclocked to 585 MHZ

[font=Arial’, 'sans-serif]Asus PK5 Deluxe Wi-Fi edition mother board

2 Gigs Kingston PC2 6400

Hard drives are;
74 Gig Western Digital harddrive 10,000 Rpm
160 Gig Seagate Barracuda harddrive 7200 Ppm
500 Gig Seagate Barracuda harddrive 7200 Rpm

See attached for the memory settings. I have attemped to generate a normal map with the MaxPolyPerMesh and the HD Preview MaxPoly both set to 50 also with no luck.

There are 9560064 Polys at it’s highest level.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Well, I think we’ve found your problem.

Your Undo settings are obscenely high. You’re forcing ZBrush to always keep in memory 64 copies of your model and another 64 copies of your document. That right there is a massive drain on your system resources. Those settings should be left at their default values of 4. Especially when your system only has 2 GB of RAM to begin with.

Which brings us to the second problem. With your Compact Mem setting at 4096 you’re telling ZBrush to only write to your hard drive if you use over 4096 MB of RAM. The thing is, your system has 2 GB of RAM so it’s impossible to ever hit that value. ZBrush can never write to disk, no matter how badly it needs to. You should set Compact Mem to 1500 with your system. Remember that Windows needs RAM, too!

The bottom line is that your settings as they are now are first choking ZBrush by preventing it from using virtual memory and then to make matters worse are forcing massive amounts of memory cacheing thanks to the Undo settings. That’s a recipe for all kinds of problems.
