This is another application of the technique demonstrated by Lemonnado. I inflated a few times up to a hundred, then I deflated a couple of times, then I inversed the masking and inflated again. All of this happened on a 3D terrain converted to PM.
Great thread Lemo!

That looks nice Mytholon, very alien…
Nothing fancy… just followed Lemonnado’s instructions. Thanks very much for taking the time to show us this cool process Lemonnado.

That was a very nice landscape method you posted.
Could you explain it a wee bit more thoroughly for me.
eg the starting map and the steps after.
Did you use sharp edges or soft in the map?
Big thanx
Had time to play…

very inspiring thread and posts!
Thanks!
Well we used to do this kind of stuff with Renderman (and various APIs) using shaders. So this is cool. In fact so cool I decided to use it as the cityscape for an animated hero character, should be fun.
Jason, must be fun to rotate the city scape while the camera is close and is dodging buildings… The perpetual city…
Lemo
Haha lemonnado, you discovered my insane logic! Once the various paths are layed out, rotation speed does all the work. some of the building sides make great billboards as well. This looks like a fun thing to play with.
Lol, I made that with a cylinder and a deformer in XSI. The cylinder rotated and the deformer squished it a bit all the time so there was a flat part. I think I watched it rolling on my screen for 20 minutes… Like the weather channel… once you watch… you never stop…

I was thinking just a cpl days ago that this could be a good way to lay out cities :). Was also wondering how accurate it could be … but maybe it doesnt have to be extremly accurate, guess u would just need to map heights to intensity or whatever.
Lemonado, about five days ago, in this thread you showed a sphere with an incredible amount of text on it. How did you achieve that incredible clarity. No matter how much I subdivide or play around with text in photoshop can I get that degree of crispness. I’ve followed your suggestions here but I must be missing something.

I used a filter called Sinedots to create the texture . The fill background shows some of the image but with a z mat added.
zeeble sinedots
