ZBrush4?

My heart jumped when I saw the thumbnail! I sure hope this one will be as satisfying as Z3 release, especially the videos which blew my mind back then for Z3.

I also see no reason to complain so much, even while I do understand that it’s frustrating for us when they announce something with nothing to show for it yet (videos / features etc).

The upgrade is indeed FREE and I doubt it’s only to keep customers. Tell me, of every amazing 3D still out there in sites and forums, how many of them used Zbrush, I honestly see that over 90% of 3d stills which were sculpted at one point or another used Zbrush, and I see no reason to doubt the future of this program, or to compare Mudbox and Zbrush as this is a Zbrush forum anyways.

Either way I owe so much to Z3 which really changed my art-life completely, it is only after Z3 that I properly launched in my art-life and actually made any qualified 3D artwork. Before then, no software ever was able to satisfy me for creating art in 3D and I always gave up or just stuck to 2D. Without Zbrush I would probably never hae engaged in the realm of 3D art honestly, (and now finally in conjunction with Maya).

Anyhow, let’s hope for the best, and I sure hope that they really deliver with this one like they did for Z3, as the Z3 upgrade from Z2 was probably the best upgrade for a 3D app I’ve ever witnessed, like Khallus mentioned.

Zbrush has embodied a couple of the most giving parents; they basically gave us digital sculpting in a way nobody had preconceived…

The result is a bunch of spoiled brats!

I give respect to 3d coat for its own field of innovation. as for mudbox… i consider it to be Zbrush JR.

HAHAHAHAH! I love that!
Spoiled brats!..

Thanks Pixologic for the 3.12B version.

i like the “inyourface” smilie at the end of the annoncement

Have to go to the doctor, cracked my mouth

Even more magic from Zbrush…. this is terrific news.

Here is my guess list

Zapplink from polypaint , which exports the zbrush’s 3D model into

the 3D functionality of Photoshop CS4, where you can paint on the 3d, rotatable model

using Photoshop’s painting tools

A built in robust animation track, so that all our animation needs can be done

right inside Zbrush , bye bye AD

I am hoping that ZB4 turns out to be so awesome; that you no longer need to use photoshop or leave the program for any reason, other than to animate or migrate your completed work. And hopefully, without effort or strife, move it into an entertainment pipeline of your choosing, whether that be games, movies, or whatever. It would be absolutely superb if I wouldn’t ever have to touch another modeling application again and if my 3d application would only then serve as a animation an visual FX platform. I also wish that the renderer has advanced in such a way that it leaves animators and FX artist craving to be able to output their scenes in it!

I’m on the list…:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Great to see the old hands surfacing, esp Mahlikus the Black (whose Z2 mat I still use, thanks!)

Z3 has taught me how to wait, I’m afraid

Yeah Zbrush 4 announced is a great news to me .
I bought 3.1 this year, and knowing the upgrade to 4 will be free make this new even better .

But eh, even if I had to pay anything, I would do it for this great compagny Pixologic is .

Alpha, Texture Libraries, Turnable Gallery, Zbrush Central itself …

So many great things  !

Thanks again Pixologic

I never saw what was so great about photoshop. I think people are just used to using its tools, and I really hope they don’t waste time making support for the stupid photoshop 3d paint tools.

I’m indeed curious what’s coming up, and positively surprised that this update will be free.

Yet, in reality, I haven’t used ZBrush extensively in ages. I just find the workflow so frustrating. :frowning: I’ve also put some money on 3D-Coat, and immediately felt more comfortable with the way it works. To each their own. I’ve seen absolutely amazing work posted here made with ZBrush, and I’ve always wondered how they manage to do it and avoid the frustration that always stops me. Maybe it’s just that these people are full-time sculptors and can dedicate a whole week on a single model, whereas I don’t / can’t / am not.

I still find ZBrush useful for some isolated tasks. ZSpheres are a really handy way to create base topology for various creatures. The sculpting is pretty fluent - once you learn The Rules. Since I have bought both, I’ll just say that ZB and 3DC will complement each other well. They both have some mighty useful features.

ZB4!!!
Greaaattt!

I think it just takes a long time to learn zbrush. Once you do, the actual sculpting seems to be the easy part.

I’m a Max user. Hearing max 2010 release doesn’t bother me. Hearing ZB4 coming out really excite me!! The only thing I wish for in ZB4 is to have texture painting like in mudbox 2009. It result in sharper higher quality of texture. Another one is to simplify and improve the retopology tools. Last is to incorporate subtool master and improve it much further. Thats all I can wish for now.
The texturing part I hope so much it can improve  The rest, take it away Pixologic and blow our brains out!!

If they did that they would be killing production pipelines at a lot of studios. Photoshop is used at every studio for texturing. Even if it is painted in Zbrush it still goes into Photoshop for some tweaking. Photoshop is also technically better for texturing because it operates on a pixel level where Zbrush is dependant on how many polys the model is made up of. I also use photoshop while I’m sculpting to make alphas on the fly.

How does pixologic make any money when they keep giving the app away free. I bought ZB 2 about 3 years ago and havent paid any more since then which is great but makes me wonder how much longer they can keep going as a company.

When zbrush 3 came out I started a zbrush 4 wishlist thread which had only one thing on it. A normal 3 button mouse maya style navigation (and yes I do use a wacom tablet). God is that too much to ask? Just as an option even.

C’mon Pixologic, surprise me, in the meantime mudbox continues to be my choice for sculpting and painting for its standard and intuitive UI, but still use z3 for transpose and occasionally zspheres.

If they do what? Not put in the photoshop 3d tools? I don’t think anyone at all uses those for much of anything as of yet, do they? If zbrush farmed out the 3d paint tools that seems more than a little silly anyway. They don’t seem to be any good and painting is the thing zbrush does best as far as I am concerned.

Storing by pixel is actually more info stored (for high res anyway), anyway, so when you do go down to texture level you get more info/less error. Of course there’s no layers for polypainting I guess. I know it’s still the norm but I just can’t see spending much time painting on UV maps by hand in a 2D app, it always felt like torture to me but then I don’t do it all day like some people.

I never could get much going in photoshop, though, but for 3d painting I found it goes very quick and easy and almost always looks like I hope it will. It seems like photoshop is about tricks, but I found instead of using any trick it is actually easier (for me, anyway) to just paint it, even though I have no 2d art background at all.

I paint in photoshop and love it to death but have no intention of doing any texturing in it if I can at all help it. Yes I can see where photoshop can still come in handy to really make a texture crisp and pop. All I am hoping is not have to do that with ZB4. I hope that the paint toolset has evolved in such a way that there is no longer a need or any reason at all for using another app. I will still use photoshop but just not for painting on an object. I can also say the same for the renderer as I really wish it was improved to a point that I can feel comfortable rendering inside of ZB4. The only thing that I want to leave the app for is; content migration, animation and visual FX.

Also I for one am glad that ZB4 is going to be a free update; if any win user wants to go ahead and send them money for it thats all fine with me but I think it absolutely needs to be free for the Mac crowed. But if ZB4 turns out to be what we all hope and pray for, I think then everybody wouldn’t mind paying for any future updates. ZB is an absolutely magnificent software package from a really awesome company and I thank them for all that they have done.

I am also very glad to see ZB4 coming out soon. I bought ZB3.1 over a year ago and I am glad to be able to use it. I hardly ever use Photoshop anymore for texturing except to add smaller details to a polypainted texture that may be too small to do in ZB3 without a crazy amount of polygons.

And my only wish for ZB4 is to include polypainting layers for specular, reflection, and emissive painting so i don’t have to clone my “tool” to paint each map. And for god’s sake, can we have an append texture/alpha feature so I don’t have 30 of the SAME NAME images?

Thanks…and go Pixologic
