ZBrush4?

That’s what I really want more than anything. I wish more 3D software developers provided flexible navigation options. Some types of navigation I can use for months or years and never get comfortable with. It makes a big difference in productivity.

My personal favorite navigation is LW Modeler or default Modo incase pixologic is reading this.

Okay, I admit it. I’m just a bit skeptical.

Yeah I think this news is awesome because if ZB4 is going to be out in August that can only mean that 3.5 is just around the corner!!

Zbrush 4.0 in August 2009! No way. Pixologic are infamous fo NOT keeping their word on release dates etc, EVER!

2010 release, maybe…just!

nice but i hope that zbrush 4 will be also for linux.
but if to be Realistic there will not be a linux a version and i promise you that zbrush 5 will be before linux version.

Problem with supporting linux is that too 3rd party tools you might want to use don’t support linux or only do so with a lot of effort. So as a software maker for any software that has rich GUI and especially 3D or game related stuff you pretty much have the choice to either make your own tools from top to bottom and spend a lot of time and effort making them behave properly or else don’t support linux.

I looked into porting a 3d engine to linux some time ago and eventually decided it would be easier to start from scratch, or even to write my own operating system to run it. So yeah, don’t hold your breath. Most software devs are not fans of windows but for most cases it’s too much effort for too little payback.

In my past life I did the corporate thing for a small company which produced educational video games. We also had the problem of setting a release date for a new product and then being 6 to 12 months over schedule. When you have a small development team, these things happen. Unforeseen circumstances arise and divert resources elsewhere ( ie. the Mac version not working properly). Would you rather be dealing with Autodesk who meets their deadlines but doesn’t change a thing??

So to all the naysayers around here, chill out, master Zbrush 3.1, and enjoy your FREE upgrade. Even the mac users, master normal mapping, you can do anything with them. I would still pay $600 for Zbrush if I could not produce a displacement map. Check out Alex Alverez’s Gnomon tutorials, no displacements, all normal maps.

I believe Epic games produced the art for Gears of War using Zbrush in its current form. So if this were the last version ever released, we would all have alot more to learn.

In the future, as Pixologic grows their development team, I am sure these issues will go away.

Cheers,

Matt

“master Zbrush 3.1” as Clappy71 suggests. I keep trying!

Thanks to ZBC and the occasional call to Pixologic (thanks Aurick!) and the Patients of ZBC members learning this program is fun.
I can’t say the same for other apps i have to use. :stuck_out_tongue:

It;s rare that i know enough to post a tutorial or anything with confidance, so i appreciate when members at ZBC take the time to reply!

Some of us not part of a 3D production facility, or are not as artistically gifted, but still really like creating with ZB. This is where ZB seems kind of eletist.

Pros
:small_blue_diamond: It’s great to have Free Upgrades to an innovative software
Cons
:red_circle: but you are (somewhat) forced to learn the new workflow since the
older software is not able to be reactivated. It would be nice to have access to both. Due to all the cool Plugins that were created i have a workflow in ZB2, but also like using ZB3.1

It was a nice suprise to see the icon and get conversations going again,
ZB4 is definitely something to look forward too.

The main problem i see for Pixologic is communication with users. Even if development has some delay, the best thing to do is to always keep users informed about the development of the app.

Pixologic develops astonishing tools, but you can’t keep users uninformed for so long periods of time.

Also, maybe development could be more user driven sometimes… 3d coat is being developed with the suggestions and hints provided by users within the forum, and it seems its getting shape very well.

however, ZB is a very cool and powerful program. it offers great tools for cheap, and i bet 4.0 will be great as well.

Anything closer to actual digital clay is a step in the right direction in my opinion. I want to really sculpt digitally. Worrying about polygons and topology is a technological barrier to the creative flow. Artists don’t want to do math, they just want to slap on clay and sculpt. Being able to stretch or build onto models freely while maintaining the ability to evenly lay down detail is something that would be truly revolutionary.

Absolutely impossible would be my best guess, cheers to wishful thinking. Looking forward to any update at all really.

I havent read the whole thread, but I would just ask for less crashes (which made me cold sweat a few times), 64 bit version and more polys to work, something like Mudbox.

Ill wait for it.....that great news…

i personally think you are all buggin, zbrush is not buggin, i would be satisfied with zbrush 3.1 for the rest of my life i think its perfect and easy to navigate around its minor problems, and i think people complain too much when they should jus shut up and take advantage of all the amazing features… retopolization and zspheres , sculpting with any shader. with this how could someone want to give up because of a few errors… its like when zbrush 3 for mac kept on gettting delays, and everyone cried over it for a year. if your serious then just get the pc, if your complaining about wanting zbrush 4 now, dont you think you should try to master zb3 first anyway? with maya lightwave and zbrush you can model anything… having zbrush 4 would be a luxury that nobody should be too desperate for. and who cares if pixologic delays anything , they frekkin invented the pixol!! they could tell me zbrush 4 is coming out tomorrow and then never release it and i would still appreciate their company

@_@!!!

For those of you that just wet your pants over this news.

  1. Just look at past performance in releases.

  2. Announcement just after Mudbox releases with clean user face that will attract many.

  3. Free upgrade again. How do you think businesses stay in business people, not by having to give one release after another for free.

Yes there are a number of people who have mastered this program and produce unbelievable models, but not as many as their could be. When you are the only game in town doing this stuff, you get business, can give upgrades for free to attract new people and quite down existing customers.
Not anymore. I’m sorry to say that you will start to see a migration away from ZBrush and unless 4 is a completely cleaned up GUI, reasonably bug free release that stands the test of reviews over the summer months… Yes they can’t just drop it into the marketplace in Aug, Pix may not make it as a company in 2011-12.

Take a look at Luxo’s Modo 4.01 Preview. The preview is better then what most companys put out as Product release features. If you are giving it away for free, you must have a lot of investors, and the investment picture with ZB doesn’t look good against AutoDesk.

Has it maybe come to your mind that the new release could
be that good and revolutionary that theyre not aiming at the old users
but at all those who sold theyr licenses and moved to be slaves of
a company with the most ridicolous release policy ever?
I mean look at max 2010 its a joke. Polyboost worked before why should
there be an difference with it integrated into the app and a crap uihttp://zbrushcentral.com/zbc/images/smilies/thumb_down.gif.

“Yes there are a number of people who have mastered this program and produce unbelievable models, but not as many as their could be.”

What are you talking about?
On every 100 kick ass models coming from zbrush there is maybe 1 mudbox model.

A number of people that have mastered this software?
We all did. Its easy it was my first 3d app and makes every other one look
like its from an alien planet.

Im quite sure pixologic knows what theyre doing because giving away
free upgrades just to keep customers is utterly senseless.

I really dont know what brings up this hate in some of you but you might aswell
keep it to yourself. Im pretty sure pixologic will be up and running for a long time.

p.s. nice editing. i guess controling temper also comes with age

wow, settle down… seriously.

oh wait! yes…

how about an annual fee… like a shiny gold maintainace plan for … let’s say $7999?!

that would be toooooo great, righty?!

you’ll just have to wait like all others for an upgrade but feel soooo much more privileged because you paid for a “shiny gold member league” account… THAT’S a reason to complain - not?! (?)

and guess what, the poor souls over at ad are doing just that!!!

chem?

can you belive it…a free upgrade…actually my SECOND FREE upgrade!
and yet we see people complaining and moaning…esp in the current ecconomic climate…gee get a grip out there!

'it’s not even a tiny point update but a full new release…with i’d guess a bag full of goodies just like 3.0 was after 2.0…a totally new beast.

i’d surpose people would be much happier if they charged $400 upgrade and made you go onto a subscription program…

some people just don’t ‘get it’

pixologic…i like your app and the way you keep on ‘giving’.

to the people who constantly moan…look peeps…you have an alternative now of sorts so trot off to mudbox, silo, 3dcoat, belnder etc…

bye bye!

All the “M” slinging in here sounds more like a bunch of Mudder trolls to me.
I tried Mud and left it. Don’t give a rats posterior about it.
This is a ZBrush forum with ZBrush announcement. No more no less.
In these times I’m more than happy to get something for free. Sue me.
