Hahaha… I KNEW this would happen. The exact same thing happened with 2.5->3, 2.5 was supposed to come out, it fell about a year behind schedule, and wham Z3 is announced.
I guarantee Z4 won’t come out in August though, in fact- if history serves as a reminder, we’ll be lucky to see it by August 2010 
But I’m happy with 3.1 for now, so I don’t really care… I just think pixologic really needs to get their act together about releases, bug fixes, and broken promises.
Please come out for mac at the same time… please o please o please

Cool another free upgrade! You can’t knock that. I’m a little disappointed that we won’t see the promised 3.5 release before that though. Especially on the mac side of things with it’s current pipeline bugs. Hopefully Pixologic will hit their new deadline and get this release out. Thanks guys!

nothing against Zbrush, but the broken promises and way overdue bugfixes are getting boring. Wake me up when its time.

Zbrush is a wonderfull tool…don’t get me wrong, but I personally would be much happier if 3.1 would work as it should be working…without having to create my ‘ways to avoid running into this and that bug’.
As for 4.0…I think this announcement now is just ‘eye-wash’.
Yep - A Working Version would be much more appreciated than a lot of non-working features.
I can’t even export from ZB to an OBJ, and Import that EXACT same OBJ without problems 
Now try fitting a Headus UVLayout Pro setup between that and you got problems!
Instead of Adding a Magnitude of Settings to Import/Export to all the 3D apps they should centralize those Options and create Working Presets for Import/Export
I can’t believe it - how can people cheer up in anticipation due to a simple announcment, a simple “4”, without any background information, no proofs on what exactely will be put into that release?
To me it reads rather sadly: We can’t keep the mob satisfied with the expectations on 3.5 anymore - let’s call it Zbrush 4 and they got a new pill to swallow to keep em calm.
To me it reads: We did’nt make it on time so let’s give it a new name. To me this is after everything related to the unusable Mac version the biggest disappointment I’ve ever got to know, in 12 years working in the industry.
That’s a punch in the face. To me it reads: there will be no bugfix for the Mac version until glorious Zbrush 4 comes out (probably!) in August 2009.
It should have been quite easy to get out a patch to Mac users. Why can’t you just simply fix the displacement bug and send out a patch? Why?? Should’nt be more than a couple lines of code.
With this announcment you say that - even though Mac users can’t create displacement maps for six months now - they have to wait for another 4 months??

Seriously, I’m very excited. Free upgrade as well. Pixologic continues to be a force for good in the ever increasing Autodesk shadow. Not to mention continuing to define the cutting edge.
Speaking of which…let’s see some movies!

Cant wait lol…even with bugs, it’s still a revolutionary app! And honestly i don’t know any app that don’t have **** loads of bugs that drive me crazy… just work around them and hope they’ll get a fix lol
