ZBrush2 crashing with Hook brush

Folks: I’m a new user of ZBrush (of any kind), just loaded ZB2 on a WinXP Pro PC, a stable PC for everything else… BUT I’ve twice had ZB2 crash, wanting to “Send an Error Log” to MicroSoft. I THINK that on both occasions I was trying to use the HookBrush tool… I know I was on the latest.

I don’t expect anybody to have The Answer (but if you do please let me know)… I’m just hoping to hear of others with similar results. I’d like to know if it’s a problem with ZBrush in general or my PC in particular. Any and all information or suggestions are appreciated. --Thanks!

Same here with the hook brush on WinXP pro, sometimes it crashes sometimes it doesn’t (mostly it will). Also will crash in some of the help tutorials.

2.4 AlthlonXP, 1gb ram, 9200 128mb radeon and running from 2 Hard disks, 40MB and 120Mb

I’ve been running well on a dual Athlon 1.53Ghz, 2Gig ram, nVidia Quadro 4. I think the ram exspecially helps.

The RAMs got nothing to do with the hook brush on a 640 by 480 canvas in my opinion… I could be wrong but I dought it as the used RAM is far less than 100MB when that senario happens.

  • my system handles everything else fine massive polymaps etc no problem, just the hook brush.

Hi
No problems here!

Amd 2.1Ghz, 1.5Gb ram, Radeon 9600 pro 128mb :+1:

Folks:

I’m running WinXP Pro on a P4 with 3 Gig of memory… Memory ain’t the problem. But run a bigger-than-default document, do some hooking, and more times than not it Hangs and sends and error report to MicroSoft.

It’s not hardware, I’ve heard from Pixologic and they’re very interested in the problem. It’s not isolated, it’s not my machine, we’ve got Patch or Release issues showing up. No big surprise, new software release less than a month old. Looks like other System Hangs are happening with other folks…

Thanks for the feedback… Matt

R-Jay, I was just commenting on Z2’s preference for ram in general. You should have plenty anyway I would think.

I’m also having a lot of problems with ZBrush 2 crashing on Win XP Pro. I’m running a 3 GHz P4 with 2 Gigs of Ram.

Can’t seem to isolate it to anything in particular. I can be working with any number of tools and unexpectedly have a crash with the “send error to Microsoft” screen popping up.

I absolutely love ZBrush 2 but I lose a lot of work having to start over and over again. Hope a patch is on its way.

Keep up the great work Pixologic. You guys have the most innovative graphics software on the market right now.

The Hook brush is a known issue.

A reminder to everyone: When posting any sort of error report or troubleshooting issue on here, please also post your system specs as per the note at the top of the Q&T forum’s main page.

Thanks!

I’ve had it crash or hang on more than just the hook brush. Was working with Zspheres and then it just hung. Usually it crashes straight to the desktop. It’s a great program just for me not reliable enough to use for work. Wondering if there is a desired system spec for the program.
