zbrush wont shut down.

Hi - I did a quick search to see if this was already covered, but didn’t see anything.

Basically, I can’t get zbrush to shut down. After I save my tool, i go to close it, it asks me if i want to save my document, i pick no (i’ve tried yes as well) and then it just freezes. I’ve left my computer just to see if it was taking a long time, but no, it’s just frozen and in the end I have to shut down my computer. Next time i start Zbrush up, it works fine, except I can’t shut it down again.

My specs are:
intel core 2 duo processor t7500 2.2ghz
3gb ram
quadro fx graphics card.

help!

I’ve never had it crash on shutdown like this, but sometimes i need to kill it using Taskmanager, CTRL+ALT+DEL, way better than having to restart your whole computer.

Hi arran,

Which version of Windows are you running (32-bit or 64-bit) and what are your Preferences>Mem settings?

hey - thanks for the replies.

i’m running xp 32 bit. my compact mem is set to 256. undo is set to 4. max poly per mesh is 9 and hd preview is 6. i assume that’s the default values.

As for task manager, zbrush doesn’t show up under applications, only processes. i guess i should shut it down there.

i’ll try defragmenting as well.

ZBrush should show up under applications in the task manager. The fact that it’s not indicates that something is very wrong – most likely with Windows itself.

that’s weird - i don’t think zbrush has ever shown up on my task manager under applications - even on my last laptop - i remember cos i thought it was weird. hmmm.

i should add that everything else shows up in my task manager and, as far as i can tell, appears to be working fine.

just to say - i got it to start shutting down again. i did a big clean up and defragmented. still not showing up in task manager, but that’s ok.

thanks again.
