ZBrush wont render, just freezes or crashes...

I’m rendering a pretty heavy scene w/ 41 million polys but when I click render it starts but after about 10 seconds the bar freezes and it does nothing, If I wait 20 minutes still nothing has happened so I have to crash ZBrush and try again but I’ve tried 6 times and no result. I’ve got the memory set to 4096 (I have 8GB) and all the performance settings are set to defaults but I’m running a quad core cpu so my PC should be able to handle it.

Any ideas?

Render out parts to layers in ZBrush. See here>> http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Layer_Palette

I know that when rendering on an underpowered system, the render bar will completely freeze, but the rendering is still being processed.

I was rendering a scene on a 1 gig netbook once and this happened. The render still processed eventually.

Your system is probably fine, I’m guessing, but that’s a pretty big scene. Maybe give it 40 min?

Thanks for the replies, I’ve got that problem sorted now it turned out my CPU cooler was dodgy so it does now render. But I have a new problem:

I’m trying to render an 8,000 X 8,000 pixel image and I keep getting the memory error, I’ve looked around for a solution and all I could find was to increase the virtual memory which I have to 64GB over 2 hard drives, which surely should be enough? Also I’m testing rendering one section which is only 2 million polys and it still runs out of memory, I can render the entire thing just fine at a lower resolution.

So what can I do? Does it just mean that my machine isn’t powerful enough to render the image at 8k?
