Zbrush Wiki? [Answered]

What is up with the Wiki?

It is seriously outdated. I rate docs by the “number of times I have to google for the reason something not is working as expected or simply missing information” factor. LOL!

I totally get that there are updated docs for new features, but the base documents that cover things like the palettes are seriously out of date.

Now, this is all good. But it looks like these pages are locked down and there seems to be no way to create an account to edit. The link only affords the option to log in.

Video docs and other tutorials are great. But it is very time consuming to have to fish around for explanations from every direction just to get what is happening in a menu that ought to be documented.

Now, would it not be better to let us update the pages and save time for other people who come along?

What happened with that? And why is this not an actual Wiki?

As anyone started an independent wiki if there is no interest here?

I have tried google and can not find anything on this at all. And so I am a little confused actually. There is so much praise about the learning paths here. But for me the docs are a big fail.

And I don’t mind helping out when I can but it appears this is completely not possible.

It’s locked due to spam, and has been for quite some time. I’d personally prefer if they had a system like Polycount’s wiki (you have to email a mod/admin in order to have an account set up that can edit the wiki, instead of just letting anyone do it), but then that would probably burden one of the Pixologic staff members with many requests. It’s a shame because a good community could really help keep the wiki up to date, relevant, easier to use, and spam-free.

An independent wiki could be an option, but it would also be a shame if it weren’t legally allowed to use some of the official documentation (which is still good and well-written).

I’d like something like this too. I find working in ZBrush tedious as I have to search for how to do everything, nothing in this program is intuitive (look at what happens when you start a new sculpt for example).

I wish they’d adopt a system similar to Modo’s where you activate help, click on a UI element, and it takes you straight to the page in the documentation regarding that element.

Holding Ctrl and hovering over a button can give pretty good help information

Spam?

What a shame.

Because it is something that is all over the place. The wiki idea I mean. Blender, LightWave, (private) all AD products have one. So if there is a problem with spam… wild idea. Why not just do what the other wikis do and keep going?

Just sayin’… That is kinda like saying we decided to stop licensing our products because the world is full of hackers.

I agree on the copyright issue. They offer this product free upgrades. It is in their best interest to keep us coming here for information. Site traffic is key to additional sales, word of mouth and so on. People training in school come here and become future costumers.

If the information provided here becomes very difficult to assimilate then the problem is people go elsewhere and that is bad for business.

They are doing absolutely the right thing with videos. The best in the industry I think as far as that goes.

It is time to step it up in the documentation area.

They have a group of very appreciative folks who would be willing to help. It should be utilized I think. For instance I just did a run through on the Palettes. Almost done. I could have updated quite a lot of stuff.

But that is something I am interested in now, as I have an enthusiasm for learning this. But once I am out of that phase, the thrill is gone baby… and I am on to other things.

We are aware of the problems with the wiki and are working on a replacement.

Good to hear. Good luck with that and I hope you can get back to being live very soon.
