Zbrush Vector Displacement

I haven’t seen too much information/usage of the new Vector Displacement Technology around the forums and was wondering if anyone could send me some links on how to utilize zbrush’s new Vector Displacement maps. Its a really cool technology that I’d like to try and utilize in some of my pipeline.

Again if anyone has knowledge of using/exporting Vector Displacement Maps I’d greatly appreciate your help/advice.

Thanks!

Hey Nick,

Have a look at the documentation that came with ZB, it explains how to find the “flip and switch” value for your particular external 3D software by using a diagnostic file. It’s pretty straight forward.

Good luck with getting the effect to work seamlessly (excuse the pun) outside of ZB though because at the moment most other 3D applications/render engines are not completely compatible with ZB VDM’s.

It has something to do with different software using different sub-division methods and the issue won’t be completely resolved until one (such as Catmull-Clark) system is made standard.

Vector displacement definitely has potential in many ways but unfortunately it’s now a matter of getting major software developer’s to play nice and work out a real solution.

Let us know if you are having any success!
