Zbrush to Modo

Hi everyone,

I have some tutorials about going from Modo to Zbrush and back again, and each tut shows clicking on UV CHECK and some other items. I can’t seem to find it, and actually my tool lists are very different from those in the tutorials. But I can see at the top of the tut Zbrush 3.12, so it seems I’m doing something wrong. Do you know of any reason mine won’t show?

All I’m trying to do is do a base mesh in modo with UV, import to Zbrush and do all the painting and detailing, then create texture and displacement maps and bring the back into modo for lighting, posing, and rendering.

Seems simple enough but it’s death getting things out of zbrush!!

Hi Pigumon,

Your problem may comes from your UVs. two points:

  • your UV unwrap may have some overlaps. Do a deep check in modo.
  • you may have some UV vertices which are exactly on the border of your UV space (strictly on 0 or 1). Avoid that and do a small scale to reduce your UVs. If ZBrush find an UV vertex which is on a border, it will shift it on the other border, and then, generate an overlap.

If it’s not that, post some screencapture, it will help

Modo is working great with ZBrush, it’s the main software I use (well, with 3DSMax too…) and 3.12B provide very good results with modo for the Normal maps and dispalcement maps.

Well I know that overlapping UV’s can cause a real problem, but it’s not that. It’s that all the menu options have changed from 3 to 3.12. They say they’re laid out better and make more sense and I’m not questioning that, it’s just that the buttons I used to push are GONE and I can’t figure out how to do it the right way.

Do you know of a current tutorial that shows how to go from Modo 301 to Zbrush 312 and back?

I can make a model in modo, I can make UVs, I even know how to put UVs in different quadrants in modo so they become different polygroups in zbrush. But I can figure out the correct steps in zbrush so that a displacement map and texture map is created that will work back in modo.

There aren’t THAT many 3D apps, it seems there should be a clear, concise tutorial for each.
